he was promoting himself in a way that was attention grabbing. A big part of why he blew up initially is that he had great music paired with being a white boy with braids and gold grills. He doesn’t want to look like that anymore and his taste has changed, so he changed his appearance.

I don’t think he really used it as a stepping stone more than most other rappers

It only appears that way because he is White and can more easily get accepted by mainstream media. I know the quote you’re referring to but I honestly think he was trying to say something without having his thoughts fully clear so it sounds crazy. Post gets too much flack.

would you say that The Weeknd used R&B as a “stepping stone” to make synthpop? or is he just expanding his horizons?

he played the rapper act for like 8 months and was making dance videos in short shorts before. he didnt “grow out of it” because he was never fully into it

Like I said he conveniently dropped the act as soon as he hit top 40. Mission accomplished

Making excuses for him not having his thoughts clear? He should know better especially after he got pressed for using the N word. with no apology to be found🙂‍↔️ keep in mind having a professional publicist couldnt even spare him from being an idiot

Who would say something as idiotic as uhhh yeah rap music has no soul I like Bob Dylan 🤓🤓🤓

House of Balloons had synth pop songs

Stop making excuses for other stupid white people just because they make background music for you to drink your beer to

Whitewashed avatar characters in your cover photo is the cherry on top. Picking up heavy suburbanite frat boy vibes pshh

Post Malone recently sat down for the cover story of the spring/summer issue of GQ Style. During the interview, Post explained how he modeled himself after rappers like Mac Miller, Travis Scott, and A$AP Rocky before finding the genre-bending style he’s now known for.

“I so badly wanted to be like Mac Miller and Travis Scott and A$AP Rocky,” he said. “Finding my own identity in the whole thing was—I don’t want to say difficult, but it was a process for me.”

He was inspired by people and started dressing like them. and tbh he has always been open about doing pop music, alt rock, and rap even when he first started to pop off.
His first mixtape had a Fleetwood Mac cover that transitioned into a rap song. it’s not like he was mr hip hop and then turned around overnight.

and tbh I am Black. Just keeping it real with you that I don’t view Post Malone as a culture vulture

So he d***rode 3 of the biggest rappers and wanted to be them so badly, but only for about a calendar cycle, until he popped and then all of a sudden rap music has no emotion and he’s a country boy? Got it. Cant forget to throw the occasional mainstream rapper on single occasionally to stay tethered to “coolness” since thats what it was always about

I apologize for wrongly assuming your ethnicity though. white washed avatar characters is still some wild s***

So I'm suppose to jump on this Post Malone/country singer bandwagon, when the motherfucker came up off a song called White Iverson? I have every right to be skeptical.

    You're exaggerating what he said

"There's great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they spit that real s***, but right now, there's not a lot of people talking about real s***. Whenever I want to cry, whenever I want to sit down and have a nice cry, I'll listen to some Bob Dylan."

This is no different then old heads s***ting on the new generation of rappers.

There was so much real music out in 2016-2018 so either way he wasn’t tuned into the culture he supposedly has so much love for. If that was a quote from the last 2 years it would check out for the most part. We’ve all seen white people go from being all in on black culture for cool points, to becoming borderline racist/very socially unaware and using language they shouldnt use. Post wouldnt be a rare example of the white guy who “grows out” of it. He has some alright cuts but Im not gonna pretend he’s not suspect

Ofc but that's just his opinion lol, you're making it seem like he went on some racist tirade and completely ditched the genre when majority of his catalog is hiphop influenced.

And practically every rapper has a line like "does anybody make real s*** anymore" does that mean they're s***ting on the genre? It's really not that deep

He absolutely ditched the genre after album 2 in both image and sound, except for the occasional rap feature and pop-rap drum programming. Rap started to lose mainstream dominance and low and behold, no more features

It was already clear after beerbongs & bentleys that he's going the pop/country route lol this is nothing new. Literally his last album was country.
