Botneyi never understand these types of examples having any kind of weight.
MJ was huge from 1979 to 1995, that's it.
Taylor's been been the biggest artist for the same amount of time, and unlike MJ, has no signs of slowing down. I don't think MJ could've sold 2m first week in 1995 (an era where people still bought records).

Michael Jackson was the most famous human being to ever walk this planet. Forget entertainer, forget celebrity, HUMAN BEING PERIOD.
Taylor Swift, nor any other musician, will never be that no matter how many records they sell.
Also, can we really say Taylor Swift has been the biggest artist out for her entire career? She wasn’t the biggest artist of the 2000s, definitely wasn’t the biggest artist of the 2010s, and really didn’t reach THIS level of cultural mania until she dropped Midnights in 2022

Half of Taylor's cultural impact comes from social networks/in-communities/standom/tabloids, etc. which she almost exclusively controls on purpose.
MJ had some of that sure but I'd argue more of the love of his stuff came straight from how quality his music/art was. And even with all that external stuff, MJ had that kind of clout with no Internet/streaming.
Taylor's huge, but she's not there yet even if people like to act like she is.
This but the other fundamental difference between the size and scale of her and MJ’s fanbase is that Taylor’s is comprised of almost entirely women and gay men. Which is fine and to be expected of a female global pop star in 2025. But still. Her hardcore appeal will always be limited to specific demographics, it’s the brand she’s built. at least the ones that will truly ride for her hard.
And before any straight guys respond to this, you know what I mean. There are obviously outliers. But you know what the overwhelming majority of Taylor’s real shooters look like.
