I think it's because she was very young when she started and she was a very mature and talented songwriter for her age with albums like Fearless, Speak Now and Red. Her reputation comes from this phase.

Then, she moved on to full pop music with 1989, which is considered a great album, and became this massive popstar.

I think some songs from Ed's debut and his second album are definitely Taylor-tier. Back in 2013-ish, they were considered the female/male counterparts to each other.

If you actually took your time to compare their lyrics and artistry since 2017, you'd understand. Ed has released nothing but s*** (Divide, Collab Tape 2019, Subtract, Play) while Taylor has released some slop but also some classics (reputation, folklore/evermore and midnights) and the Eras tour was like the biggest pop event of the decade and cemented her legend status. Sure, the conversation now moves towards 'she's a mid artist' bc she just released a terrible album, but let's not ignore the masterful poetry on folklore
