    Wow. Respect for expanding on what you meant. I think that all can be valid for a number of fans, of Taylor, or any artist for that matter. To say an entire or large portion of a fanbase can be attributed to that is just where I veer off the road a bit lol. But word

    Yeah I'm not trying to troll, and clearly there are a ton of people that are into Taylor for the music (I was trying to get a signed CD here earlier), but it's very clear that a large portion of her fanbase is not into the music the way normal people are "into" music.

    Not trying to be a man who's "into" art trying to disregard young women's passions or whatever, it's just the way it is. When she puts out her movie, there's gonna be a bunch of people who are gonna be into it and trying to glean information from it about her personal life - all while ignoring the full-on original film she made lol.

    And yeah it's that way to a certain degree for a lot of artists' fandoms, but I think it's the most obvious and most clear with Taylor's - in part because she probably has the biggest but it's also in part because, honestly, that's what she wants.

    All this is why I loved Folklore and Evermore so much - it wasn't written from first-person and it forced people to reckon with the music head-on. She didn't have a public spotlight, she wasn't fiending for attention in the media, it wasn't about her as a person; it was about what she created and the emotions she was trying to convey. Her fans couldn't spin those albums as easily as they normally would.

    I'm really excited for her to come out swinging like this after middling albums to me (Midnights/TTPD), but I'm nervous about this album suffering from "the narratives" fans will make about it that have very little to do with the music or songwriting itself. Or, worse, Taylor leans into those narratives to appease the people that are looking for just that.

    I wouldn't normally type this much but I like you as a poster, provider lol.

    This is definitely true for some segments of her fan base, but that’s more due to how ridiculously large it is at this point than the quality of the music imo

    I have a long running theory that Taylor has had the impact on a generation of women, pop fans, and pop music that Kanye did on the same generation of men, rap fans, and rap music. In the same way we now have cauliflower hair white kids from the suburbs who grew up on Kanye and nothing else of hip-hop culture or the influences he brought into his work who proclaim themselves “rap fans”, there’s an equivalent Stanley cup Disney adult Taylor fan conflating success in pop metrics and stan culture with actual quality in art. But that’s a whole other discussion.

    Kanye = Beyonce

    Drake = Taylor

    Makes far more sense.

    Exactly.

    I mean I was more than half joking lol. It is a bit quiet. But I think majority of people who would normally listen to a Taylor Swift album knows it's coming out and will be tuning in once it does. Plus there's been rumblings about a huge post-release promo run (so far a film in theaters, and a late night tv appearance) so perhaps it's by design.

    But it is a bit quiet.

    so hard to gauge her hits because of her vast, loyal fanbase makes everything seem like a hit during the streaming era statistically

    Her last huge inescapable hit was probably Bad Blood.

    But her last hit song I’d say was Cruel Summer, which went extremely viral online four years-post release
