i dont relate any sounds to particular colors or anything like that so maybe its something different. its involuntary imaging of entire videos for everything i hear... even if i try not to. just hearing a simple beat my mind starts running. i hate it tbh. its why i get into photo/video editing but i can never make what my mind sees. s*** bugs the hell out of me
v interesting
to me it sounds like its at least something in this vein especially that its involuntary and so strong for you
thats ok! <3
like i believe the concept is real but I don't think it is something that everyone couldn't do if they tried to do it

I agree with that
the difference for people that have it is that they dont try to get it. it just happens involuntarily and very very quickly. its an immediate reaction not a think about it and decide reaction
its also consistent for people w it. the same sounds give the same colors even if they hear them weeks months or years apart

What I find interesting and not discussed often, is that DAWs facilitate synesthesia in users making music — the interface shows color blocks associated with sounds. (At least on Logic Pro X.) This has made musical imagery much more tangible in my imagination, and easier to grasp in a creative context where I think of these color blocks as an open-ended puzzle.
Eg when I see a sound block playing X piece of music, I associate this block (visual) with the sound — and this sticks after looping it several times while editing.
I used to get this when I first started smoking weed
Even would sometimes come up with my own melodies and songs in my head from scratch when I was just watching sumthing
this can also happen naturally when you been making music for a long time.
no wonder why most musicians do d**** to enhance it.
making music on psychedelics is also a life changing experience, I'd say way better than just listening.

thats actually really true
it fits pretty strongly w that idea of learned association creating those pathways as well

thats why i said making music feels like painting to me. my daw is my canvas:

For example i see c minor as red
C minor for me is dim gray, C major always felt like green that keeps getting brighter, when it goes to F it's not even the same hue, F feels like orange mixed up with black. the tritone F# is straight up black in comparison.
best I'd say is G major, G major for me is that light blue to blue gradient.
E minor is the red for me.
imo most mental conditions arent cut and dry enough that either someone has it or not. Some people probs have some parts stronger than others and weaker than others etc. You can see this especially when it comes to mental illness like anxiety and depression. Nobody really exhibits the exact same symptoms.
Considering the fact that there's tonnes of different senses going on in the brain (not just 5 lol), synesthesia is likely no different. I reckon "asmr" and "frission" are types of synesthesia.

that sounds cool but actually thinking about experiencing that I think I'd hate it. I do audiovisual stuff and I'd hate to feel obliged to follow what my brain tells me it feels like. Do these associations feel "correct" to you? As in do these feelings actually sway/guide your paths of workflow at all?

yea absolutely
its like adhd
everyone has adhd symptoms
but its a spectrum some people only have a few and very rarely some people exhibit almost all of them at an intensity that makes it difficult just to live

yeah in the end its just structure and electro-chemical reactions in the brain, we might reach a stage where we can a***yse someones brain basically omnisciently and with that I think we'd completely throw away all these labels because we'd be able to properly quantify/qualify someones conditions based on their composition
Can attest you can definitely get the effects of Synesthesia off psychadelics
ahhaha yeah on acid i ate a sausage roll that felt slippery
