Right. But they laid the foundation and groundwork for how to do it successfully. Yes it was a different time, but it still worked because they were very strategic with how they planned the order of their releases.

They didn’t take a real risky swing with a film until Guardians, which was 6 years into the universe after it was well-established and both loved by audiences & commercially successful

Correct I agree with this. Was speaking more so to people's comparison of performances.

I do think there's still a lot to be gained from which projects they picked and what the focus was. These weren't interconnected films as we know them now, they were essentially standalone origins hyper-focused on their main hero, and only exposed connections largely in post-credit scenes. No one has actually managed to replicate this. Very disciplined approach

Avengers and beyond is where they forged the MCU we know now and took more swings thanks to that sturdy base.

Just saw the budget for this movie, closer to 300mil. In what world did WB think that this would come close to what Superman made? Predator Badlands cost 105mil and barely made money.

He prob conflating the marketing but iirc that’s all basically being paid for by other big corps right?

Like no one was like "oh wow Hulk didn't do so good so I guess Avengers is off the table"

No, Iron Man was still making Marvel the money it did so they had confidence to dial in on their slate. Iron Man was STILL IN THEATERS when Hulk released.

Average fan didn't even know some of this s*** was possible

edit: Iron Man was in theaters for 151 DAYS

Still no word of a DCU Batman or Wonder Woman film. Literally feels like I’m watching the CW Superhero shows where they could only use certain characters due to TV rights except Gunn doesn’t have that excuse

Yeah they made 100M back in sponsorships

I think this could reach 200 WW but sadly that might even be a tall order

  • These people flipping their thoughts after the reviews drop will always be funny

Ain’t the rule you 2x it to include the marketing. Either way they are setting their expectations way too high.

DC still got a good chance of going 3/3 in their next films despite the dogshit fanbase

star wars is just trash films with trash fans

DC hate train is somehow louder, Star War’s hate train is more valid

Star Wars f***ing up at all levels except some of the tv stuff and has been for a min. DC is accused of f***ing up more than it necessarily is rn bc of the 2010’s run.

Depends how the Gosling movie is received next year

Yeah but besides for Batman seems like DC has always struggled to release live action stuff.
