So is this a problem for eating chicken in general, or is it only going to be a problem if you don't cook the chicken properly?

It's tough because a lot of our culture is dictated by meat and it's hard to move away from it in a social setting. Plus I f***ing love eating burgers and s*** lol

But even past the concern of the animals' wellbeing and environmental issues, I find myself getting more and more sickened when eating meat on a personal level. I just hope I can slowly wean off of it.

Experts said that bacteria are killed when chicken is properly cooked, but that humans can become sick or even die through cross-contamination with uncooked foods in the kitchen, such as on a cutting board.

sounds like proper cooking should alleviate the majority of concerns, but there’s obviously still a lot of reasons to be cautious. i’ll still be eating at chik-fil-a tho

just start by moderating it imo

u must of saw krishna's graph of how we're eating 100lbs more of meat every year than we used to. we definitely weren't built for that and especially with the way meat is treated now moderation is the move.

i was feeling the exact same way as you and then one day i realized i could actually realistically go for it.

imagine your son almost dying from mf chick fil a

"Ashley Queipo believes an impromptu trip to Chick-fil-A in April 2020 likely resulted in her son fighting for his life. After a long morning of home-schooling in their home town of Brooksville, Florida, the family headed to the drive-through as a treat.

Eight-year-old Chace ordered his favorite: chicken nuggets. But within hours, he fell seriously ill. When he was hospitalized with salmonella, tests showed the infection was resistant to all antibiotics.

“You don't think that going through a drive-through and handing that brown paper bag to your kid in the back seat could cost them potentially their life,” said Queipo. “But that is the reality.”

She believes the nuggets made him sick. It was one of the last meals he ate before falling ill and the only one neither of his parents had prepared.

Queipo didn’t report the incident to the restaurant because the family initially thought the illness was caused by a virus, and by the time it was diagnosed as salmonella, she was focused on her son’s condition. Chick-fil-A declined to comment.

“The odds were really against him,” Queipo remembered. “He was so dehydrated, he had a fever, and he was hallucinating. His body was trying so hard to fight it. And it just couldn’t.” Chace’s stomach and bowels stopped working, but doctors were left with no treatment options beyond inserting a tube into a vein near his heart to give him nutrition.

carnism is very evident when you look at this thread in contrast to the recent Starbucks thread

people don't trust starbucks employees to wash the communal cups, but they trust every single employee in all the fast food chains to cook the chicken well enough to eradicate a potentially deadly superbug

people be acting so wild when it comes to meat and it just shows how effective the propaganda has been for the past century

    @op

reminds me specifically of charts such as this which highlight why this stuff is such a problem

the amount of chicken consumed is not only absurd increases yearly at a virtually unsustainable rate. in order to keep up with this demand, especially in light of the fact the amount of chicken demanded is basically unsustainable, we've put ourselves in this situation where chickens are not only literal hormonal mutants barely qualifying as living organisms but they are treated in factories with the same quality and safety overview as if they were making high demand items like paper or other commodities.
