PurrpWe can’t make the mistake of expecting progress to look and be perfect. Bad Bunny isn’t supposed to be the guy leading a revolution he isn’t supposed to know, do or speak about every single thing, his role is his art and his status, the platform he’s given and the opportunities to be vocal he takes when on it. His art and rhetoric is there to open conversations but I don’t expect him to be a savior figure. Rn there’s a movement to reignite and re embrace Puerto Rican pride and culture and it’s extremely important for him to be the face of it given his status.
Again I’m not saying I don’t understand your point but I feel like a lot of times when it comes to these kinds of movements we take anything less than perfect as a flaw or a failure. These things take time. Realistically ofc bad bunny isn’t going to bring independence to PR via all this one he’s an artist not a politician or a radical and two sadly PR doesn’t even get to make that choice for themselves no matter how many referendums come up in statehood or not.
Using your platform to spread awareness and bring some relief monetarily is still helping. i understand exactly how f***ed PRs corruption is but again we cannot mistake progress of any kind, relief of any kind even if it’s just for a few months on the average Rican business owner as a failure bc it’s not perfect- there is no ethical conumption or action under capitalism. You can only maneuver within and try to use it to advantage when possible. The material changes happen elsewhere and sadly the way it looks it’s going to get significantly worse before it gets better
tbh I don't think anything Bad Bunny is doing can be considered actual progress but I'm also not expecting him to lead a revolution or be a revolutionary. If he's going to preach about Latin American solidarity and PR's colonial status though then he should speak more on the political beliefs of the Puerto Rican revolutionaries he's trying to expose his own people to, he should speak more on neocolonialism instead of removing it from the conversation entirely while supporting it indirectly. More importantly though he should speak on the US literally preparing a war with Latin America as we speak.
There are military bases in PR right now preparing to attack Venezuela. The US is still trying to suffocate Cuba and obviously just trying to take over Latin America again

with his concerts he could've taken an anti-imperialist stance when he decided to not tour in the US but instead, he made it about ICE which doesn't make sense to me. That's my issue with his overall commentary on Puerto Rico's colonial status, he's oversimplifying things and that'll have an influence on the independence movement which still pretty small but it's growing thanks to him.
I love his music but yeah he's just a big dumb baby lib and that's fine but his influence is too big to stay quiet or be ignorant right now. He's literally one of the biggest artist in the world right now. Possibly the biggest Latino artist in the world.

Tho he has mostly moved away from trap songs like that check out his album nadie sabie lo que va a pasar manjana. Came out a couple years ago and he focused his sound mostly on that style.

the best way to help your people is to stand away from the capitalist regime entirely as a voice for the voiceless, not feed the beast for a moment of relief that the beast will now use to further perpetuate the separation of his people from the mainland. I understand Puerto Ricans are proud of him tho, so ima just fall back on this topic and say congratulations
