im saying "wait a minute what if it isn't? what if there's a perfectly reasonable explanation that does not involve racism? what if that explanation is more likely than this being racially motivated?"

at face value it does seems messed up but there could be more to it…

this video is 3 seconds long how do we know the person wasn’t joking around and came right back to high five them?

or how do we know someone in the background wasn’t heckling them and that’s why they shook their hands and walked away to avoid confrontation?

this is why social media can be harmful no one thinks and just takes everyone/everything at face value

EDIT: the company said (tweet below) the person was waving off someone in the background who asked them to pick up their kid.

so the performer probably walked away quickly after that because they felt awkward by the interaction and missed the children by mistake (unfortunately)

Purple is opposite on the colour wheel to yellow, the colour of the Sesame St. character and symbol, Big Bird. A Purple show of defiance against the hatred spitting characters this show portrays and enables. I ask you all to change your profiles purple in respect and solidarity. Also go out today and find 5, just 5 black children and give them a high five to let them know care.

at first glance it looks like there's some racist s*** going on right? But then u think abt it more like... You know how straight up racist u would have 2 be to do sum s*** like this? Also, you know how many black ppl b at sesame? Like if whoever was in the costume was so racist they wouldn't hi-five black kids these would certainly not be the first kids to not get hi-fives, not even in the context of this parade. And if that was rlly the case there's no way this 3 second clip would be the only time anyone ever talked abt it, right? The more u think about it, the more absurd it seems that this had anything to w race.

Then u start to think whats more likely, that there's someone in that costume so flagrantly racist that they cant even give black kids hi-fives, or that there's some other explanation.

of course, thinking through that all takes more than a few seconds and most ppl don't give twitter posts more than a few seconds of thought b4 reacting.

nah it wouldn't there's one video of one person in the costume walking past two black kids (u know how many white kids they walk past? just as many but there's no rsn for folks to post their home videos of that happening rn)

there's another video of prob a different person also walking past a black kid in the parade (again they almost always always always just walk past kids. hi fives r rare asf)

there's a third video of probably another person walking away from the crowd in the suit n walking past some black kids. (again this is high school kids sweaty asf in the damn suits i cant blame em for ignoring kids as they walk away)

Yes ur brain has been trained for pattern recognition, specifically to detect racism. I get that. I do understand how taken out of the context of sesame, if u don't know how they run their s***, it seems like there must be something racist going on. But im telling u like hear me out the odds of this actually being some racist s*** is so so so low like ...

the thing is these videos show u that the sesame mascots brush off black kids all the time. And if u didn't know that they brush off kids of every race all the time I see how u could assume its gotta be a racial thing. But i'm familiar w how they do s*** there, and i know this isn't something that just happens to black kids, s*** it's happened to me every time i went there as a kid and im white asf
