Putting the weird comparison with reddit gamers aside lol, it's definitely true that there's so much wrong with how funding for studies are determined.

But also just because you don't find the topic worthy of any research doesn't mean the researchers had any ulterikr motives.

Probably won't find the same correlation since it's different factors that drive people to adopting a new belief system vs something that was passed down through generations.

anywho i think that idea also seems to correlate w/ how most people you see or hear openly using/discussing astrology personally are generally going to do so in reference to themselves. you don't see too many astrology ppl get so inspired by the plights of the capricorn that they dedicate themselves to trying to fix the specific things which they believe ail said capricorns. or things like that

however pure narcissism i dont think is gonna be as strong of a correlator. prolly some level of narcissism, like having faith in/a desire for being a part of a successful group of people. but that isn't necessarily bad narcissism. u see ppl who very genuinely believe in astro stuff attempt to make connections w/ ppl that they believe they'd be more intrinsically-inclined to like, even if that belief in the intrinsic-inclination is based in something like ~month you were born in. pretty much all ppl do that kinda behavior all the time, they just have different motivators. instead of birthday/sign, it could be stuff like status markers like school status or job etc etc

this doesnt rly make sense. your example study is pretty obviously intuitively wrong or poorly concluded, and part of the reason it seems intuitively wrong is that personality studies as a field has already given us reasons why such a conclusion wouldn't make sense unless the personality qualities within pc gamers have dramatically changed recently

so, a study that'd get the majority of its citations through replication studies showing exactly why they were wrong about their conclusion is not going to make u a better candidate for securing grants. it'll in fact make u a much worse candidate

this ain't as intuitively wrong as that kinda example at all. it's accepted knowledge that certain belief systems will correlate with narcissism, like whatever belief system ayn rand had, or stuff like believing you must strive to get the absolute most money u possibly can in your life/career identity
