Man. I expected to like this more.
One of those movies that got a whole lot going on, but somehow I'm still not caring. Like some others have already mentioned, I was most tapped in for the last 30 minutes, the actual disclosure. I wasn't even particularly moved by Emily's performance. Just meh! Didn't connect.
Movie has quite a few obvious issues but I liked it overall. Spielberg's mastery of the craft is just too clear for this to be anything other than entertaining at its worst.

It reminded me of Michael bay in some ways . One time watch that’s just a bit mis written
Ending really is an eye roller
Ending was one of like 3 good scenes in the whole movie imo

Newscast yes but the cliffhanger translation of listen

That was my favorite part lol
You going to Hell
I get it would be corny if they gave a full speech but 2 hours for aliens to tell us to listen ? Whole movie was pre disclosure day with plot armor plot devices and unnecessary action

Everything preceding that part was the content behind the word “listen”
That’s the point

I get that I still think the depiction of humanity and it being on brink of war is much more interesting than chasing David from place to place trying to kill him . The point of the movie was in her speaking Korean and seeking to understand everyone she came in contact with their fears and how to comfort them. I get the point .

This is kinda why i didn’t like it, the subtext was so potent and satisfying during the rest of the film that it leaves the moment feeling a bit deflated
Saw this in Imax yesterday. Went in with no real expectations and there was a lot I liked and a lot I didn't. Loved some of the shots, camerawork was top tier and the cinematography was good too. Spielberg always has good lighting. John Williams kicked ass with the score too.
What I didn't like, script was a bit hollow and there was what felt like so much build up that just leads to basically nothing. Shorty who was Josh O' Connors girl couldn't act for s*** (learned she's Bono's daughter, that's hilarious).
Bit of a mixed bag but overall just didn't land like I thought it could. Emily Blunt carried, she was great in this. I liked Colman Domingo a lot too. But how you giving my mans academy award winner Colin Firth absolutely no character depth at all is crazy as hell. Spielberg a goat but we could've done without this.
