"I am a huge fan of the show and cast, but I have to admit that the final season in it’s entirety was a little disheartening. Although the performances of the cast was phenomenal, I feel as though a major goal for the writing of the entire season was to get the viewers to emotionally detach themselves from Ghost. Sure Ghost was an extremely flawed character that did a lot of bad things, but we still wanted him to win. At the heart of everything bad he did, he genuinely wanted out of “the life” to pursue something better. Shouldn’t his desire and effort to transform himself be given some credit? One can argue that his actions deserved consequences…ok, well he did face consequences didn’t he? How about being in prison for a crime he actually didn’t commit; the death of his daughter; the death of Angela; being hated by his best friend AND his own son for the better part of 2 seasons? Are those not consequences?? Did he also have to be murdered by the son he desperately tries to save from making the same mistakes he did? But even if the creators/writers thought that the death of Ghost/James St. Patrick/Jamie was mandatory to the story’s end, I feel as if his death deserved better. Was it by design that ALL of the focus was on who killed Ghost and minimal focus was placed on his death? The star of the show is murdered and the audience was given zero opportunity to mourn him. Instead, it seems as if the creators/writers intended for us to hate Ghost so much by that point that we wouldn’t care that he was murdered in cold blood…by his Son…and left to bleed out on the floor. Strategically, Ghost was a complete a****** to everyone the entire season. There was very little to love about him by the finale and my guess is that it was designed that way. Personally speaking, I still wanted him to win in spite of everything. Either way, whether you loved him or hated him, the actual death of Ghost deserved more screen time than it got. Ultimately, Ghost was not even given an opportunity to be a victim in his own death. Even if you don’t believe the character of Ghost deserved better, you have to agree that Omari Hardwick did."
