This entire movie was a forced retcon.

TLJ (say what you will) was setting up possibly one of the most original plots you could have.

And instead they chose to focus on retcons, s***ty lineage, continuing to waste their secondary characters, s***ting on palpatine’s legacy and introducing new characters no one gives a f*** about

so once again another “a good story....for another time” moment

Why’s everything in the new movies insinuated? Why not just show it?

It can be implied that the fallen Jedi (who've "ascended" in the afterlife thanks to Qui-Gon's discovery/training in the force) temporarily and conveniently transferred their strength into Rey in order to deflect his lightning.

But again, this is but another plot point that is ever explained or even referenced up until that moment.

I believe the original plot had Leia and Luke’s force ghosts help take him out, even if it was a bit corny it would’ve made much more sense to have them do that rather than her pick up a lightsaber and suddenly defeat him
