Why put yourself through the misery

I watch in timeline order through ROTJ, then I'd watch mando

I feel you but I never watched The Rise of Skywalker (only read long plot summaries & spoilers) I wanted to go in chronological order for the first & last time.

Finished w/ my rewatch & I am still surprised at how awful the new trilogy is...
using the original cast members as marauders, despite every other character being f***in invincible
retconning Palpetine & basically making Luke's entire arc futile
    the awful humor & writing
    Finn getting friend zoned
These movies were such a train wreck w/out almost any redeeming qualities whatsoever. They're nearly as bad if not worse than the prequels

it ruined vaders legacy as well. he turns back to the light side and throws palpatine over the edge, only for palpatine to show back up in episode 9 because they didnt have any new ideas.

how do you ruin both luke and vader? you'd think it would be impossible.

everything with the sequels was a s***ty, diet version of what we got in the previous movies. just a cash grab.

goerge lucas may have been a s*** director, but hes got one hell of an imagination and is very creative.

I agree he peaked after Star Wars & Empire but his world & universe building was incredible. Like you said if I did a rewatch I'd watch it in machete order (& possibly Rogue One first) & then Mando after Return of The Jedi.

Vader's sacrifice has nothing to do with what he does to Palpatine and everything to do with saving Luke. Vader always wanted to kill Palpatine. It's what the Sith do. The apprentice wants to kill the master so he can have more power and the master wants to kill the apprentice before that happens. Vader's legacy isn't destroyed at all.

Not even gonna get into Luke cuz I could spend hours writing about how Rian didn't reduce Luke's entire being down to the final 10-15 minutes of ROTJ unlike the rest of the world.

    disagree

luke goes on to become what anakin was supposed to be. luke WAS saved, but then they had luke reduced to a bum hermit thats hiding from his failures. that just s***s on everyone that put faith and their beliefs in luke. yoda, obi-wan, vader etc. everyone

theres a reason there are a thousand vids of mark hamill going on and on about how they butchered and disgraced the character of luke. "luke would never give up!"

its the biggest screw up out of all of the movies. you have who is supposed to be the all-time most powerful jedi - you bring back mark hamill and just destroy the character. yikes.

Hamill never said that they butchered and disgraced the character. He said that when he first read the script he didn't understand the direction Rian decided to take Luke in. After that though, and on numerous occasions he said that after a few talks with Rian and as time went on, he did begin to understand it.

Luke accomplished what Obi-Wan, Yoda, etc. wanted him to. This is a "new" threat that endangers everything he has done up to that point which is why he reacts so impulsively (something completely in line with how his character behaves in the OT).

Like I said I could talk about this for hours but I don't wanna get into it any further. I've spent the better part of 3 years defending these films and it's exhausting.

They really didn't do Luke justice with his arc in the new trilogy. He went from being a intrepid, legendary Jedi & savior of the galaxy and reduced his character to a bitter recluse. Why, because he was discouraged about Kylo turning to the dark side?

Luke’s arc is the best part of the trilogy and last Jedi is a great Star Wars film. Rest is mid tho

Whole trilogy was a miss. Some decent planets introduced but the new characters were terribly written, while the old characters were not even a resemblance of themselves.

Wish I could forget this entire trilogy existed.

how is it a new threat? the first order is a lazy rehash of the empire, just like the resistance is a copy off of the rebellion.

kylo struggles with a beginner, and an ex-stormtrooper picks up a lightsaber and goes back and forth with him. there is no new threat for luke. if they wanted to build these guys up as a legit threat to luke, they should have written the story different and should have made his opposition look stronger.

kylo had a chance to be an iconic villain if they did the character justice, but they did not deliver at all. if something didnt get buried and destroyed, it was just poorly done or mad average.

the idea that luke skywalker of all people is in hiding while a couple of rookies are out fighting the first order - what is such a threat and so dangerous that luke won't stand up and fight? makes zero sense.

whatever idea they had, even if i disagree with it, they didnt do a good job conveying it on screen.

what they should have had is built up kylo and snoke (i think snoke was a wack character, but whatever) and then have luke clash with them at some point. we get to see some of luke's incredible powers. by having kylo struggle with rookies in the first film tho, it kind of ruins that whole idea tho. luke would mop the floor with anyone the first order were to put in front of him.

In the Mandalorian they’re still fighting empire remnants, it had only been 30 years with the first order rising re-establishing the empire’s former power.

Kylo never struggled with Rey until he was literally at his weakest point emotionally after killing his father and being shot with a f***ing bow caster by Chewie that has been know to throw stormtroopers flying.

And he didn’t wanna kill Rey, he was trying to have her turn.

dude was still beating the s*** out of his opposition until Rey really focuses and connects with the force.

Jesus man, can you guys at least get your s*** right when you’re watching a film?

Luke literally failed to re-established the Jedi by failing Kylo.
he has a genuine redemption in this film, a genuine reason to be reclusive feeling like the path of the Jedi need to end.
Luke had always been a person who would fail and fail for him to finally be able to pick himself up and redeem himself

I’m sorry what exactly did you want from this film? did you want some f***ing boring team up movie where the character depth of Luke is as about as one dimensional and bland as it gets?

“i want my saber fights, i wanna see cool action sequences with Luke Skywalker and his green saber!”

the fact that he struggled at all makes him look weak. rey is a rookie with no training. someone well schooled in the force should make quick work of a beginner.

to compare - anakin, who was the chosen one and seen as the ultimate prodigy, got schooled in mere seconds when he tried to rush in and confront count dooku. then, after gathering his senses, he lasts another 30 seconds or whatever until he gets his hand chopped off. dooku is superior to kylo for sure, but anakin was also 10x what rey was at that point.

for kylo ren to be portrayed as a powerful force user on the dark side - you simply cant have him looking weak and struggling with rookies. i dont care about getting hit by chewie or he felt bad about killing han. its bad storytelling and it makes no sense.
