The bulk majority of the production problems with TFA/TROS happened during the writing process and pre-production. TROS did undergo reshoots but it was considered pretty standard stuff, not to mention the fact that TROS rushed was because they let Trevorrow go late and practically started over. I’m sure JJ is considered almost as good a hand as Rian is.

Watts and Levy are in demand because any studio loves films done ahead of time and under budget.

he had already prepared 40 scripts for the underworld show and was heavily involved in the cancelled darth maul game that was going to tie into the sequels as well.
he was involved in early meeting for episode 7 after disney bought them but they basically told him to f*** off and didnt end up using s*** from his treatments
pre selling to disney, i think he was scared of failing and figured it would be a better legacy to go out on the high note that was ROTS
