Oh brother shut up.
Niggas who are making millions are so disconnected from that foundational core element that they don't need to be sneaking and stealing samples like they were back in the day when they were broke and there was hardly any money to be made off rap.
Pay and credit the artists who created the s*** you jackin.
@notbrock Like can you read?
"I said top artists on a major label should absolutely clear samples"
Have I literally not been saying artists who have the means to clear samples should clear samples.....
So do you agree with everything I said?
They’re gonna train their AI on this
Not good!
they literally are outrightly saying:
“use our app more so we can track your keystrokes and algorithms and feed more data to our AI models to feed back to you as more content on yet another app now designed to keep your eyes on the screen!”
So do you agree with everything I said?
No.
If you're sampling somebody's work in your song, and then you monetize your song so you're now making money off s*** you didn't even make that's wack as f***. Even moreso if you're not even gonna do the bare minimum and credit them.
If you just gonna put that out for free for the love of the craft (since you wanna go on about foundational core elements) I can't knock that.
Seems they bought it for this. Pretty cool feature

Song Credits are just the start. We’ll also be rolling out SongDNA, an interactive view that maps out connections between songs, showing collaborators, samples, and covers all in one place. Spotify Premium listeners will see it in the ‘Now Playing’ view as a new way to explore, dig deeper into how tracks are connected, and trace a song’s creative roots. Samples and covers in SongDNA are powered by WhoSampled, which is now part of Spotify. With WhoSampled’s community-built knowledge, fans can dive into the influences behind the music they love, while giving sampled and covered artists fresh ways to get discovered and celebrated.

This is very bad bro I can’t afford to clear all the s*** I’ve sampled
they making data out of every aspect of our lives! can’t even listen to a song and try to research its history anymore, they’ve now made that data to suggest to you similar artists! now you can keep up with AI recommendations and a***ysis sourced from third party AI sites to know and share that fakemink sampled a Bangladesh artist from 1985!
No.

So then why did you highlight
“Have I literally not been saying artists who have the means to clear samples should clear samples”
When you actually just meant anyone who samples?
Are you saying a kid who got influenced by Illmatic, Made a bunch of sample based beats like that and put it on Spotify should be sued?

Son...I have BEEN saying artists who have the means...artists making millions...the people who can afford to clear samples...should be getting their samples cleared.
The artists who cannot afford to get their samples cleared, but still tryna monetize those tracks...I don't know what to tell you man, but they're f***ing idiots. Seriously, what do they expect is going to happen when they try that?
Like can you imagine being an artist, you make a good ass song. And then some lil f*** nigga comes in sampling the s***, they make a garbage ass sample flip, and then try to make money off your s***?
Boy f*** the lawsuit, I'll role up to that mfers crib and beat their ass for f***in my song up.

So let me get this straight. Small poor artists should no longer be able to do the thing that literally built the genre and only rich label backed artists get that privilege now?
Like what are we doing here dog

Is it about the craft or about making money?
I don't know why we're tryna act like there weren't a bunch of artists putting out songs and tapes throughout the 00s and early 10s that had plenty of samples for free...
Is it about the craft or about making money?
Now I want you to think really really hard about what you just said…
Now I want you to think really really hard about what you just said…
And I want you to shut the f*** up talking to me bruh lmao
oh god don’t tell me theyre gonna replace
the youtube links w spotify links now
wow that would be so f***ing ass
they are for sure making worse in some way or another, no doubt about that
It's just such a huge difference between being against sample snitching back in the 80s, 90s, and early 00s vs being against it in the 2020s. Especially when it's from artist who got the means to get samples cleared.
They just being wack.
Take Madlib for example. I ain’t tryna be in bruh pockets but I’m sure he don’t have the money it takes to clear an album full of samples. I’ve seen him come out against sample snitching quite a few times
Give one legitimate reason why artists/bands who get sampled should not receive credit or percentage from artists who make money off songs that use their work as a sample.
If the sampled material has been totally affected so that it no longer resembles the source song in any way (which is subjective really)
Is it about the craft or about making money?
I would just end it. I get what you mean. Like if I'm gonna drop an album to make money I'mma make sure I can clear the samples. If not I'm a just put it on like SoundCloud

not every artist is Kanye West man. very little artists are making millions off music but not clearing their s***. most music on spotify doesn’t make a single dime ffs.
most sample based musicians are releasing music without clearing samples because they have no other option. yes if the song ends up making real money a deal is inevitably worked out but that only happens for a lucky few.
