Is the score for Saw super underrated?
Gotta be one of the most effective uses of music in all of the genre

I’ll post my full thoughts later but….

Am I crazy or is X the best film in the franchise?

Okay wanted to sleep on it and make sure it wasn’t just hype

I think X is the best in the franchise. It’s not perfect but it’s such a refreshing movie, even if we ain’t just talking Saw

Who directed this movie? The way it was shot was BEAUTIFUL. Like was this the same Saw movies? Such different vibes and hella artsy in the beginning of this movie.

    Man I’m impressed.

All the acting was INCREDIBLE. The setting was perfect. Maybe I’m biased cus I’m Mexican but the Mexico setting was LIT. And a bunch of Mexicans actors getting some attention

    Gabriella

Traps were great. Not the best in the series (4 still the best as far as traps go) but still great

Now the only negative for me is part of some of the positives lol. I know I said how it was shot was beautiful and felt artsy and I loved it. But because of that, it lost some of its low budget / amateur / raw feel the old movies had are lost with how they shot it. Feels more mainstream feeling. Like too big of a budget and lost that raw feeling.

Also can we give it up to Tobin Bell one time? Dude is brilliant as Jigsaw and legit his best performance. He’s f***in underrated acting wise. He need to be in the convo for GOAT horror icons. Dude was incredible in it

    Overall, I give X a 9 / 10

Best film in the franchise for me

    X > 4 > 1 > 5 > Final Chapter / 3D > 3 > 6 > 2

  • Sep 30, 2023

Didn’t rewatch Jigsaw or Spiral but I still feel pretty confident for this being my FINAL ranking for the Saw franchise:

    X > 4 >1 > 5 > Final Chapter / 3D > 3 > Spiral > 6 > 2 > Jigsaw

easily top 3 in the franchise on first watch. tobin was shining throughout and the extra runtime this one got really helped with the focused character development this time round

Just left, it is so much alike the mainline films. Like the trap scenes were like if Saw II-IV were filmed in 2023. Valentina’s I think was the best followed by the Blood Boarding Acting very strong by all involved (Tobin deserves high credit).

I will admit the third act felt a little Jigsaw-ish to me. That could just be because the plot beat was different from the normal pattern. I’m not down on that part but it did throw me for a loop in theaters.

I thought that it would end with the survivor who told John about the treatment dying and the death would spark John again leading into Saw 2\. Him being a plant does make sense though. I wonder how the last trap would work too, but I’ll leave it to the internet sleuths to figure out. Great seeing Hoffman again.

PS. A grown man with an adult kid sitting next to him shouldn’t be squeamish and hiding under his jacket during the traps. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Dope. And this is really worth honoring too because so much of saws identity is built around clousers score especially "hello zepp"

Might be the best horror/ending theme of all time for a horror movie

Breh Its been a minute since Ive seen these movies but when the f*** was jigsaw a good guy?

Like this movie is framing him as the hero and humanizing him.

Wtf is that about? You can show the killer for extended periods without trying to make him sympathetic

The scene where he just now believes himself to be cancer free for the first time in the series and he's still drawing head snapping contraptions made me laugh hard in the theater.

I mean there’s ten movies bound to write that in the script sometime

I haven’t seen it yet, but that’s what Stuckmann said too
True “torture p***” is torture that the audience can feel good about
Of course, I’m sure it’s all in good fun
But, I thought we were all on the same page that the point was that Jigsaw is a hypocrite with a God complex, and it’s meant to provoke and show a mirror of how all of us are sick pigs who love violence

Kevin Greutert handled direction on this one, he came back HUNGRY after the studio did him dirty on Saw 3D. Previously he also directed Saw VI, and edited 1-5 and Jigsaw, so I feel like he's one of the most involved people in the franchise overall besides Clouser and the producers.

He's also active on the Saw subreddit, very chill dude and eager to answer questions about the process.
