Trunks being such an important song to the movie and lowkey being kinda mid makes it funnier
The colors really popped in this movie. That Puerto Rican parade chase scene is the highlight of the film.
I was entertained but I think what kept bumping me is that Denzel’s character seemed too nonchalant about the whole situation it made it feel like there was no urgency
I was most intrigued about the the moral question of doing the right thing vs what’s right for you when Denzel was debating on paying the ransom or not. Kinda wish that was the main tension of the movie.
Imagine if the beginning plays out how it did with the kidnappers taking the wrong kid but they get away with it. Now Denzel’s character is starting over, his record label hasn’t had a hit in years and he just lost a lot of money (make it way less than 17.5M that’s too unrealistic why would dude keep pursuing a music career). Then, he discovers Yung Felon not knowing this is the guy who held the ransom. After signing Yung Felon, the record label sees a surge, he’s spearheading the company’s comeback in music. Then, around the midpoint Yung Felon releases or previews the song he was working on while the kid was tied in the other room. Denzel’s character finds out Felon is the kidnapper, now he’s gotta choose between doing the right thing vs doing what’s good for him
Then the movie goes from there idk that’s where my mind went while watching
yh this would be a way better film denzel in extreme shambles realising its his child then knowing he got played by yung felon the level of chess not checkers
have denzel running wrong like he back in man on fire
also yh jeffereys character being in on it and maybe one of the sons dying being part somehow connected to yung felon like a younger to him that wanted in on the gangsta life despite being from a good background maybe his wife getting shot in the arm as well stray bullet would lead to denzel going full rage mode
'you shot my wife i will kill every single person you love n laugh about it'
The background music being so loud during dialogue is pissing me off
yh need this movie straight with no soundtrack asap (no rocky)
easily the worst part of the film for me
epilogue not needed
they were all acting like they discovered amy winehouse
i was like you got the best ears in the industry thats the mid you signing?
Trunks being such an important song to the movie and lowkey being kinda mid makes it funnier
he need to make up with skepta n get another hit that was NOT it
I feel the ending wants me to be happy about this rich beautiful black family but I can't be. I am disgusted and angry. Black excellence is just black elitism, very conservative in nature. I am tired of socioeconomic disadvantaged black villains, I feel no triumph in thier defeat and no joy in a rich man continuing to be rich simply because he is black.
David King, the police, and overall the film cares little for the actual victims of the crime, and the reasons behind it.

Nigga could of just bounced and chilled without even worrying about a rap career
Finally got around to this. Did anyone watch the She's Gotta Have It series on Netflix? I finished it not too long ago, and this all looks so similar to that. Aside from the fact that they both share multiple actors.
I'll echo what everyone else has said about the score, I don't think it fit well at all.
I liked Rocky better thru the phone than thru the screen, lol. Also, wtf was the point of the Ice Spice scene?
Could've hired any ol' body for that.
It was a lot of s*** that was just laughably executed (how the bag was dropped, the convo with Young Felon's GF, Denzel randomly hearing his song and making the connection) but I don't know the original source material so can't say too much on that. I still had a good enough time with this tbh. I'm thinking 3/5. Shout out Spike!
