this was bad denzel acted well asap rocky was atrocious nice but the story was very holey n felt like empire at times (wheres jessie smollet how the f*** 65 year old denzel beating asap rocky in a fight? why tf asap rocky a rapper talking bout 'i still look good at 35' they shouldve hired a younger actor or not had that lyric he was playing his 25 year old self not a 35 year old asap acting felt like he was nervous n not in a good way which is surprisng as in monsters he was great. alot of the films heart was in the right place but as a whole film felt cheesy mightve worked better as a stage play or 3/4part series. the wifes acting was terrible the son reminded me of tariq in power quite boring acted well but apart from getting a bit angry and swearing at him pops a side character with little to no sauce. the music was nice but got to sitcom feeling because it was in EVERY scene. Highest to lowest might be an apt title as this will be my lowest ranking spike lee joint bring back 90s spike lee he seems to have lost his place and his sauce

I've been an actor for ten years and Rocky's unconfidence was on full display here.

THIS shockingly bad he acted better in court when he had no lines its crazy as the character is basically him i think it was a case of too much on the spot improvisation to get the slang right but it doesnt work as asap rocky IS NOT seasoned AT ALL unlike denzel Jefferey etc.

Yeah there’s nothing worse than seeing a film that SHOULD be great but is bogged down by terrible execution.

First off the f***ing score? Bro why this s*** was scored like a Titanic movie???? S*** did not fit at all. And it was wayyyy too much.

Next some of the acting, omg the wife is a terrible actress. The whole ya son got kidnapped was some of the worse acting I’ve seen this year.

Next, what was the f***ing point of Ice Spice????

Next… the little music videos in the end especially the f***ing cheesy ass ending with the girl singing the fake ass “and we rise up” song

As much as I hated the first act, when s*** started to finally get going it got good but ion feel it was enough to make up for the bad parts. I love Spike so much, and it should be a sin to say this BUT I can’t help but think how this s*** would look if it was a Safdie film. It needed some grittiness to it. Like @mjpplus said s*** was too neat and clean. There was a quick scene where the camera suddenly was grainy and I asked myself “why tf they didn’t go with something more like this?!”

Also some of the dialogue was hit and miss, they needed me to fix that s***. I see a guy named “Alan Fox” was the writer, I’m not familiar with him but they had ASAP Rocky saying “b” too many f***ing times. The nigga shouldn’t be saying B every two seconds, s*** became a parody. I do like how he said “nigga u baited” cus that’s some current NY lingo. I’m not sure if Rocky improv’d that? I can’t imagine some old white writer would know authentic speech like that but that was cool.

Overall I give this a 3/5….no pun intended but it had some highs but ALOT of lows smh

composer said i got this score that would fit james cameron epic spike lee was like 'yh ill take that'

  • Sep 9, 2025

The score was really frustrating in this, almost a distraction at times

“When pressed, Lee wouldn’t lift the lid too much about plot points but he did say that rapper A$AP Rocky has “the main role” in the film. Rapper Ice Spice will also have a role in the film.”

if y'all disliked the score did y'all like the one in Oppenheimer?

at least that score was good and played to the emotion of the film. this score sounded like family guy transition music right in the middle of important dialogue lol.
