As someone that really cares about ownership (I don't even have a music streaming service, all my music is downloaded on my phone/hard drives) and have most of my PS4 library on disc, this is a bummer I was expecting this eventually with these corporations trying to provide the consumer with as little value as possible while charging as much as possible, but not this soon

It's actually depressing how much better things used to be in so many ways just 15-20 years ago

It really does suck to be 25 and under right now.

  • bigmancam

    hmm ya good point

That’s money they could have used to upgrade that they can’t in good conscious sell now because the worth of it long term as final physical console will go up

  • bigmancam

sure there are historical implications but as far as the actual impact on gamers?

small percentage that doesnt matter to any of the big publishers because they know after that fat is cut they can squeeze the majority that is left

    Mark the second tower hit

I wonder if they themselves realize that they now have to keep every gen in play on the ps store or face a mass migration away from the brand

Just wait until they end support for your disc lol

Your disc is just a key to access the digital copy anyways

Disc & digital ownership are dead. Governments were too slow to react it is over, period.

You already can’t play ps 1,2,3 and some ps4 games. Sony hasn’t given a f*** about game preservation and continues to shutdown ps3 and vita stores . Many people make excuses for their lack of game preservation even digitally then say “ why would you play old games “ . When it comes to PlayStation safest move is to own their consoles plural . I think ps6 has to be fully backwards compatible with ps5 games and should be ps4 too but who knows . Feels like they should have capped this announcement with something for those who own physical

  • HaroldsChicken

I said that openly the deluxe edition even if there are other locations to get your hair done and all the other extras is a bad precedent. Not shocking but also not the first to do it. As long as you can play the base game story its not shocking.

80$ for a game that took 12 years to make in this economy isnt some crazy bad deal going 10$ up. I said digital only did suck and I called it out. John Muave cant read forgive him so he doesn't know what he is speaking on. If you have to pay a slew of employees for 12 years that cost money. Games being announced 5 years in advanced building teams then many of them getting cancelled or delayed perpetually cost money. If they never drop then often a team gets laid off and doesnt even have much to show for it in portfolio because they legally cant

There are many cancelled games that you guys dont even know exist. I am saying the AAA industry in its current state is unsustainable

-80$ games isnt the end of the world if they pushed to have physicals exist still its about finding the best format that has the most space and readability. Which it appears Sony is done fighting for . In the past they from dvd to bluray to 4k bluray to s*** even UMD always found a format solution. Now all consoles have reached the xbox one point of wanting some form of DRM and cutting out used sales

things like this were decided before GTA VI

Xbox Helix again needs to say backwards compatible, Disc being produced again in full, free to play online and make gamepass not all xbox games at launch anymore

Because for many playstation 5,4,3,2 owners who have been collecting disc their entire life you just eliminated their entire backlog in a post. Unless there is a ps6 disc add on for those who own disc but no new disc produced you just wiped out their entire collection.

Rockstar willfully wasted time milking off GTA 5 when they coulda been had a headstart on development for 6. The long development time is on them and them alone.

Digital only preorders I am glad you agree that sets a bad precedent. The issue I have with all of this is the rise in prices of everything including gaming while the rise in wages is non-existent. When multiple gaming podcasts full of insiders and tech geeks are parroting the same points about gaming starting to become inaccessible, something is clearly wrong here.

The reason I and many folks are looking at GTA 6 as a canon event for what gaming might look like is due to the fact the (perceived) success and hype around gta VI might lead to other games dropping around them failing leading to more layoffs and more destabilization within the gaming industry.

I AGREE this s*** aint sustainable (and personally nothing is, EVERYTHING SUCKS rn) and the gaming industry is in need of a reset

Ramageddon also doesnt help we need all these data centers to die yesterday.
