    RIP Gamestop. RIP midnight launches.

I'm a digital only person for almost 10 years now but jesus this still stings. My childhood is flashing before my eyes. I have a f*** ton of memories of getting a psychical copy of a game.

This is wack. Buying games in person was an experience. It built community. And now that's just dead. For an add to cart button.

You seen how fast the add to cart -> pay finesse is now on PlayStation ? It's disgustingly smooth

I'm pretty sure the "are you sure about this" payment portals from yesteryear were a conscious decision

This would be an such easy lay up for Xbox if they were actually making games instead of cancelling them . Can't really do the whole "you can still buy our games on disc" trolling when you busy gutting studios.

I know twin aint defend a game selling at $80 not even having all the side missions

I said that openly the deluxe edition even if there are other locations to get your hair done and all the other extras is a bad precedent. Not shocking but also not the first to do it. As long as you can play the base game story its not shocking.

80$ for a game that took 12 years to make in this economy isnt some crazy bad deal going 10$ up. I said digital only did suck and I called it out. John Muave cant read forgive him so he doesn't know what he is speaking on. If you have to pay a slew of employees for 12 years that cost money. Games being announced 5 years in advanced building teams then many of them getting cancelled or delayed perpetually cost money. If they never drop then often a team gets laid off and doesnt even have much to show for it in portfolio because they legally cant

There are many cancelled games that you guys dont even know exist. I am saying the AAA industry in its current state is unsustainable

-80$ games isnt the end of the world if they pushed to have physicals exist still its about finding the best format that has the most space and readability. Which it appears Sony is done fighting for . In the past they from dvd to bluray to 4k bluray to s*** even UMD always found a format solution. Now all consoles have reached the xbox one point of wanting some form of DRM and cutting out used sales

things like this were decided before GTA VI

Xbox Helix again needs to say backwards compatible, Disc being produced again in full, free to play online and make gamepass not all xbox games at launch anymore

Because for many playstation 5,4,3,2 owners who have been collecting disc their entire life you just eliminated their entire backlog in a post. Unless there is a ps6 disc add on for those who own disc but no new disc produced you just wiped out their entire collection.

Well this also includes third party games I’m assuming. So it’s a slam dunk.

yes, owning a home or property with prime location to have your power turned back in within minutes in one of the hottest summer is in fact a major privilege in 2026

some people go without power for 12+ hours when it’s out lol

Not having to get up, never lose the game, less money needed producing discs and cases and less plastic used, more space at home

    1. Not having to get up

    • If getting up off of your couch to change a disc is a problem for you, you have much bigger things to worry about than playing video games.

    2. Never lose the game

    • As I'm sure you already know, you don't own digital games, you own a license to play the game, and that license can be revoked at any time. Sony just removed over 500+ movies and shows from their library, and people that actually bought them digitally had them taken away from them. I don't know how you could lose the physical copy of a game unless you just have a problem keeping track of things. Also, Sony just announced they are shutting down the PS3 and PS Vita stores, so all of the games that were only available digitally on there will never be able to be played ever again.

    3. Less money needed producing discs

    • Valid point, but games are absolutely going to still cost $70-$80 at launch, so consumers won't even be seeing the benefits from this.

    4. More space at home

    • Most people are not buying more than 5 new games a year, and most people don't have upwards of 100+ games in their library. So unless you live in a literal broom closet, there's no reason an average person would have trouble storing physical games in their home. And even if you do, there are creative ways to solve it.
  • Btw the ripple effects of this could be catastrophic just a fyi
