Different kinda review/media embargos. In the case of God of War Ragnarok, Sony knew they had a banger on their hands so reviews and stuff like that are only going to do more to boost hype and sales. In regards to Sonic Frontiers, I think it's because Sega really doesn't want any spoilers to come out and want this to be a fresh and new experience for the Sonic series and for Sonic fans.
Sonic Frontiers is probably the most ambitious Sonic game to be made in the last decade or two and Sega likely wants people to go into it without prior reviews to cloud their judgement. It is a bold strategy to me because even though I am a Sonic fan, Sega most definitely has not earned that kinda grace when it comes to the Sonic series. A lot of the games have been ass or mid. That being said, I'm still copping this day one because everything I have seen and heard from it coming from Sega and YouTubers I trust who were invited to play the game early sounds great. But I would not blame anybody who wants to wait two weeks until most reviews of the game are out.
Spoilers??? For sonic????
Fam he runs fast
Spoilers??? For sonic????
Fam he runs fast
I mean if you don't care about the story, that's fine.
But there is legitimate lore and world building in the franchise. This game supposedly covers the lore of the chaos emeralds||. And supposedly there are even hints that ||Sonic and Amy are legitimately a couple now in this game
For long time fans stuff like this is a huge deal
Sonic is such a bizarre franchise.
Most of the games suck, and yet it still lives.
We can get Sonic Frontiers, but I can’t get a Splinter Cell sequel?
F*** the world.
lmao fr like where is this demand coming from for sonic movies and games?
sonic unleashed from 2008 is still the unattainable benchmark for whatever reason
!https://youtu.be/ogl0svUk7w0last Sonic game with a budget
if they refined the werehog stages it would have been a top 3 Sonic game easy

bold but i would expect a lot of skepticism from ppl given the history of 3d sonic games
no way i touch this without seeing it played first and some reviews. Stuff looked great, but then issues came up or i saw gameplay where it looked like the tracks were still essentially isolated zones and not open world. idk, but we'll see
another bold move to drop this day before gow
lmao fr like where is this demand coming from for sonic movies and games?
Sonic got fans from like 3 different generations of gamers lmao
Even if the games mid I’ve been playing this s*** since I was 4 in 2000 I gotta support
last Sonic game with a budget

Honestly they don't even have to do all that much refining. Just make the werehog stages maybe 10mins shorter and I think most people would be fine with them. The biggest issue with the werehog stages in the 360/PS3 version of Unleashed is that they would drag on for like 15-20mins....sometimes even up to 25mins long
That's just too damn long, especially for gameplay that was basically just God of War-lite. That made people really notice just how repetitive the gameplay for those sections was. Also didn't help that those levels were so long but the day levels would be so short. Too little of what people really want, and too much of what people weren't here for. Another thing I'd change is make the battle music in the night stages themed with the zone you are in. Sometimes a change of music is enough to help freshen things up.
yikes.

Because ppl like the franchise?
They expecting to be experts of the game on day one?
Cyberspace has been legitimately getting some mixed reactions.
The main criticism is
"Sonic controls perfectly in the open world/zone. But in cyberspace he controls about the same as he does in the open world and it feels off".
Some ppl say you get use to it after a while though.
Will say the first portion of the clip seems like the player just doesn't know how to time the drift.
The second portion may be a legitimate grievance though
Why are they even launching God of War Ragnarok next to this
Ppl buying God of War day one were probably never gonna buy Sonic day one.
And ppl buying Sonic day one probably aren't THAT hype for God of War.
Obviously there are ppl out there who are fans of both. But it's a similar situation as Doom and Animal Crossing releasing the same day.
The fanbases are so different that they probably aren't gonna take a attention away from each other.

sonic fans r different brother they got stockholm syndrome (trust me i was 1 of them 4 a while)

Also something to keep in mind is one is the ESRB. It might not mean all that much these days, but at one point games that were rated E would sell more than rated M games because back then more parents paid attention and cared about game ratings. I doubt that is the case these days. But to your point, it's all about knowing the markets and fanbases. GOW is cool but I'm more interested in Frontiers

https://twitter.com/ahremic/status/1589089287307288576u encounter drift once maybe twice
also this guy clearly inputs the exact opposite direction 1 of the times he dies. u kinda gotta treat drifting as a QTE in this game due to how it functions and how rarely you'll encounter it
but i'm tired of twitter threads that are basically "i messed up an input in a game that's highly reaction-time-dependent, much like all the other sonic games, and i got punished for it! this game's mechanics are terrible"
it aint so. i dunno if ppl make those threads cus twitter folk are babies and need coddling or if they just got a grudge against frontiers for sm rzn
in any case i'll say that this a molehill not a mountain like that guy suggests
smthn that i could see someone complaining abt but not rly. it does what it needs 2 do it just aint unleashed drifting. its not tryin 2 be either

i agree with all that lol. they honestly did not have the reputation to do this kinda game but they did it anyway and it is a really unique and strong offering from them

cyberspace does have sonic control differently
the main thing you'll notice is that he does not turn like he does in the open world. open world u can do sm hard turns. cyberspace sonic kinda more pans left and right, pretty similar to how boost games generally treat it but i do think it's slightly altered here
imo they account for this though. the levels r like generations/unleashed in that they're all straight lines/curved lines to the goal. or 2D
frankly the problems occur when u try to make sudden turns or turn all the way around. sometimes you'll want to do that to grab a red ring or smthn n u die and ur like
i aint gonna lie though it's not the end of the world. there are always checkpoints, there's no lives system and u respawn literally immediately in cyberspace
u do get used to it just like how ppl got used to unleashed. no1 was S ranking adabat on their first try
They expecting to be experts of the game on day one?
what?
he's saying the game's movement/momentum systems are so f***ing garbage it's overshadowed by an over decade old game.
they somehow made it worse, jankier, and dustier than what it was.

thats not what's happening here at all.
this dude is a modder that knows the ins and outs of unleashed through forve.
the example hes using is pointing to the overall larger point, which is that sega fixed these issues in 2008.
2008.
like its actually f***ing pathetic playing them side by side. the sense of speed, momentum, animation, fluidity and polish just disappeared

Drifting has always been s*** honestly. Think the only modern Sonic game to actually do drifting right was the Wii/PS2 version of Sonic Unleashed.

drifting is a novelty in frontiers. it's not really an issue at all i promise you. you hit certain dash pads in 1 stage, ok, move the control stick in the direction that won't kill you. success!
drifting doesnt have the depth that unleashed did with it. thas just a fact of the game. if your love for sonic boils down to his drifting ability then i guess the game is not for you but frontiers offers 1000 more things than unleashed did
regarding ur edit i promise you your last sentence is entirely wrong. u should be happy about that
