One thing i don't like is how societal collapse or the "anthropocene" is often framed as a thing for which humanity is collectively responsible

That's definitely not the case, it's colonizers, it's the ruling class that shaped the world order that's creating its own demise

This idea of collective responsibility for whatever is or may end up happening is misanthropic and basically a denial of colonialism, and straight up racist most of the time

    another terrifying chart baby!!!

Over the selected region (20°N–55°N), the amount of precipitable water vapor in the atmosphere is skyrocketing, reaching unprecedented levels. In the past year alone, the atmosphere held roughly 2 kg of extra water vapor per square meter relative to the 1951–1980 baseline (close to 10 standard deviations above the baseline). This extreme surge is consistent with the physics of a warming planet—for every 1°C of warming, water vapor increases by 7%.

Water vapor is not just an innocent bystander. It’s the most potent greenhouse gas, trapping even more heat and fueling dangerous feedback loops. The acceleration seen since the late 1990s is unmistakable: the climate system is destabilizing faster than anticipated. More water vapor means more extreme rainfall, floods, hurricanes, and an atmosphere that holds even more energy, intensifying every climate event.

Things have accelerated for our demise and I am thankful that the universe is fulfilling my dreams now, before the big event happens. I work in a good paying taxation job, get paid for singing and djing and recently got my first girlfriend. Even in the face of this apocalypse your life can still be fulfilling. So ball as much as you can, we won't have much time to enjoy this life.

    Yeah the south is cooked

If these winter storms that keep us inside for extended periods of time with dependency on cars so much (freezing iced roads w traffic) isolation just increases

summers where nobody wants to go outside, A/C issues and bad flooding by hurricane seasons it’s more than wraps

Study estimates global warming will kill 1 billion people if it reaches 2°C by 2100. The most optimistic projections put us at 2°C by the 2040s

collectively all millennials and zoomers and gen A & B should be preparing for survival in our lifetimes lol

I smell something. Americans are captured by capitalists and have been for the last 60 years.

But more people are starting to get hip to the game. They start passing laws like banning tik tok, banning abortions, banning trans people to divide us and weaken us. Divert the attention.

The next 4 years they're gonna go CRAZY stealing from us. And I think that's gonna hurt them the most.

    getpocket.com/explore/item/the-secrets-being-revealed-by-ocean-garbage-patches

Drifting plastics break down into smaller microplastics which have been detected in sand on beaches all over the world

While the United Nations Environment Programme estimates between 75 to 199 million tonnes of plastic can now be found in the ocean, there is no way to be certain how much of that is making its way into the gyres, since a great percentage gets trapped close to shore. Hardesty says the amount of plastic found in the ocean is tracking global plastic production, and says it increases by 1.5-2% each year

@op what are some ways you think we can reduce our carbon footprint besides reduce, reuse, and recycle?

i was thinking buying less stuff, buying used goods from local places, walking/biking more, etc.

not buying, especially not buying new is number one. a big one is not eating dairy and most meat. particularly cows and pigs.
