Sure war can provide opportunies for intensifying class struggle or raising class consciousness, but we wouldn't then say war itself is progressive or desirable.

There should also be a huge emphasis on the difference between claiming a war provides opportunities for "progress" and that a war itself is progressive. It's the difference between organizing mutinies in the Wehrmacht and passing war credits for the Wehrmacht.
