tuvans, buryats, and people from other republics are being forcefully conscripted since the moment it was announced. they are also disproportionally targeted; someone told me its like 50 non-europeans Russians to seven white skin Russians or something similar percentage-wise. that is f***ed up even if its not that many European Russians over there; none of it happens in the western parts of the country, not villages getting raided and people taken out of their beds to get service tickets

it probably will happen in other parts of the country sooner or later but the fact that this is whats going on while European Russians are running to neighboring countries (ones theyre mostly not fond of in the first place) made me wish for a better outcome

im cool with getting more into it in dms if you want, this is prob the wrong thread for it

chechens are not obligated anymore tho, what makes russians loosing sleep. but the main sentiment is clear, they're killing smaller ethnics. and it didn't happened just yesterday. since 2014 russian invasion there are many buryats in donbas mixed with russian criminals, debters, other contractors and private militaries. despite their life circumstances, it was more of their choice back then. many ukrainians are expecting russia to fall apart into different regions, but i'm kinda sceptic about that. russian protest movement is ridiculously weak and many oppressed minorities support putin. so ukrainians still got most of the job, if that scenario is even possible

Figures about the role of aid in Korean development from Bruce cumings

    • American Aid: American aid, averaging 600 million per year for about 20 years, contributed 100% of government budget in the 50s and 50% by 1965. Even by removing the military portion of this (50%), Korea got more economic aid than any other country in the third world excluding India.
    • Japanese Reperations in 1965: 600 million in grants/investments, 200 million in loans. 7.5 billion in today's money. This is where the money for Korea's now famous steel industry came from.

I didn't know the impact of the Vietnam war on Korea

    • The Vietnam War: America paid Korea one billion dollars for military support between 1965 and 1970, contributing 7% of GDP and 20% of foreign exchange earning in that period. The war accounted 94% of steel exports and 52% of transportation equipment exports. 300k Koreans ended serving in Vietnam.

Yup. I knew the Korean War boosted the Japanese economy but I had no idea 300,000 Koreans fought in Vietnam and it boosted their economy this much. Kinda f***ed, feels like an occult ritual/deal with Satan.
