don't remember the exact essay tbh just remember the point of the essay was about partisanship being a myth and on a pragmatic basis policy mattering more so if you strip back similarities you often find demonized candidates in general aren't allies to any wider cause but in spite of that, they do sometimes provide policy benefits which overshadow competitors

Lee Harvey Oswald’s story is so bizarre. He was going around in 1950s America, peak McCarthyism, telling everyone how much he loved Communism. Telling everyone. Even his officers in the US military. Making sure everyone around him had bizarre stories about him being a weird commie. He left the military, moved to the USSR, went around telling everyone there how much he loved Communism and how based it was to defect, and married the daughter of a Soviet official within months of getting there. Then he decided suddenly he hated the USSR, and moved back to the USA with his high profile wife who was a daughter of a soviet official. Weird! He moved to Dallas with his well-connected wife, fell in with a bunch of families of White Army Russian Exiles. Uh?? I thought he was a commie?! He then hung out with all these old anti-soviet Russians in Dallas with his well-connected wife who he married in months flat. One of these guys, George De Mohrenschildt, is friends with a future CIA director and future president of the USA: George HW Bush. This guy hooks Oswald up with the job at the book depository. where the presidential motorcade is going to pass through. Then Kennedy gets assassinated, Oswald immediately says he’s been framed, and before his trial is concluded he is assassinated by a CIA-connected mobster involved in plots to kill Castro (Jack Ruby). Then the Warren Commission is assembled, comes up with the canonical conclusions, closes the case shut, and tells the public to move on.

Meanwhile George HW Bush insists he couldn’t remember where he was when JFK was assassinated. We know he was in Dallas on November 21st and most likely the morning of November 22nd. He hid that fact, lied about not knowing where he was, then created an alibi based on a lead he knew was false. Meanwhile he also had a close relationship with Oswald’s anti-Soviet friend De Mohrenschildt. De Mohrenschildt also knew George HW Bush’s business partner Thomas Devine, and collaborated with him on CIA-related business. George HW Bush’s running mate in the 1964 election, Jack Chricton, was connected to military intelligence figures who led Kennedy’s motorcade. Chricton and D. Harold Byrd, owner of the book depository building Oswald allegedly sniped from, were both connected to De Mohnrenschildt, and to each other, through oil business. Byrd hired the tenant that hired Oswald at the depository shortly before the assassination. Oswald, again, found the job through De Mohnrenschildt. Toddie Lee Wyne was a Texas businessman who provided lodging to Oswald’s widow after the assassination. Wyne was also an investor in some of George HW Bush’s future businesses.

the way the watergate case was handled was objectively mishandled because of political motivations to get him out of office. I don't know if i'd necessarily chalk that up to CIA/FBI/etc or relationship to domestic policy though.
I think a lot of it could just be chalked up to strong political opposition. the watergate case handling was largely at least a partial conspiracy one way or another. the details are very shaky and most people don't really know how outrageous the case was actually handled. that's not to say nixon didn't do literally anything against his opposition, but his direct involvement vs the narrative of his involvement is questionable
