  • The NLRB is trying to make UMWA pay $13.3 million to Warrior Met Coal for "damages" related to them striking. Luckily they are refusing to pay

    al.com/news/2022/08/striking-alabama-coal-miners-refuse-to-pay-133-million-in-ordered-damages.html

The United Mine Workers of America today blasted what it called an “outrageous assessment of damages,” totaling $13.3 million, tied to its ongoing strike against Warrior Met Coal, which is now in its 16th month.

UMWA President Cecil Roberts said the union has “no intention” of paying the settlement amount.

“The right to strike in America must be preserved,” he said. “We will fight this at every level, in every court. We will spend every penny of our resources rather than give in to something like this from the NLRB, Warrior Met or any other entity.”

    ......

“There are charges for security, cameras, capital expenditures, buses for transporting scabs across picket lines, and the cost of lost production,” Roberts said. “What is the purpose of a strike if not to impact the operations of the employer, including production. Is it now the policy of the federal government that unions be required to pay a company’s losses as a consequence of their members exercising their rights as working people? This is outrageous and effectively negates workers’ right to strike. It cannot stand.”

what do you mean by deterministically materialist

Only seeing the material and basically acting like the superstructure doesn't exist, or that it's just epiphenomenal to the material base and that it has no material force, that the superstructure will immediately adjust to the material base, that there will be no remnants of previous material conditions after a change in material conditions.

The types of people who say things like socialism is inevitable, racism will immediately die out after the revolution, or that morality plays no part in a revolution based on Marxist principles, because that's "idealist".
