That guys is ed inn general but ppl had depression before Capitalism

i don't know anything about the guy, i just thought it was funny.

Of course the concept of depression existed pre-capitalism. I don't think that's a mutually exclusive from the (correct) idea that the majority of people who claim or are diagnosed don't really have depression, and are just reacting to how s***ty and detached society is. I'm not anti-psychiatry like a lot of people are online, but i do think it's impossible to detach that from wider society, this stuff doesn't exist in a vacuum. Like ofc someone working a 9 to 5 office job for 80 years whose job consists of looking at a screen and sending emails and then has whatever personal issues they have in their personal life is gonna be depressed. Would that same person be depressed if you separated the environment they were raised in from them as a individual being? Probably not.

  • Jul 24, 2022

let's also not forget how much of the issue of over-diagnosis with psychiatric disorders cannot be separated from the absolute f***ing cesspit of a medical system the US has

people do not realize by and large that their GD is not meant to act as a point of diagnosis for anything psychiatric or mental, and also do not realize psychiatrists are separate from therapists and are supposed to be seen in conjunction to make sure you're properly diagnosed before medication is prescribed. Instead because of the absolute f***ing s***show of a medical system we have with coverage, networks, etc. people either end up going to their GD and get a diagnosis with 10 seconds of talking and get medication a GD shouldn't even have the ability to prescribe, or they refuse to see a therapist because they can't afford out of network costs since therapy isn't covered by the majority of networks. And then psychiatrists are a middle ground of being within some insurance networks but are a point of diagnosis & prescription, so people think they're a cheap alternative to therapists not realizing they have a completely different purpose

I checked the top 20 richest families in Germany on Wikipedia

    Most of them:

    • Became wealthy in the era when capitalism began in Germany (1800s)
      or
    • Became wealthy via political favoritism during the Nazi era

Only two of them became wealthy after WW2, both in the computer industry. Besides those two, the self-made ones all had wealthy familiies. For example, the brothers who founded Aldi had parents who already owned a bunch of stores.

Anyone who became rich through the tech industry essentially is rich because they managed to get money from “legacy money” investors at one point (became a front for the already rich). There is no modern person who became rich off of the market alone

    The gold rush is over....

Also those who became wealthy in the 1800s had good connections to the aristocrats often. For example the founder of Deutsche Bank was bestowed an aristocratic title

Founder of Siemens, Werner von Siemens:

"A number of great factories in the hands of rich capitalists, in which "slaves of work" drag out their miserable existence, is not, therefore, the goal of the development of the age of natural science, but a return to individual labour, or where the nature of things demands it, the carrying on of common workshops by unions of workmen, who will receive a sound basis only through the general extension of knowledge and civilization, and through the possibility of obtaining cheaper capital."
