the basic answer is that there was a lot of anti-communist party sentiment at the time which was from borne from a mixture of religious coalitions, younger anti-communist nationalists, and several others. The anti-religious angle screwed them long term alot because it disillusioned people significantly when Hoxha left leadership. Following him not being in power, the country basically fell apart because there wasn't a clear line of leadership (again really Hoxha's fault), and mixtures of increased western influence mixed with regional geopolitics just due to their relative location really wore on them a lot. There was a ton of corruption and thinking they needed to accelerate growth even more (which is laughable honestly), following leaders resorted to Titoism rather than the rules set by Hoxha and basically took tons of IMF funds almost none of which was used correctly. This all eventually lead to the civil war in the late 90s after protests spiked from the lack of post-Hoxha leadership. Following that the country was basically westernized and any form of self-sufficiency or Hoxhaist policy was discarded or deprecated

IMO China and USSR didn't really split over ideological differences, it was just Mao's realpolitik for the most part. The whole ideological justification is just the layer on top of it to explain it after it already had happened, similar to the way Dengists use dialectical materialism to explain their market reform.

It seems Albania didn't get the memo when they split from China, Hoxha I genuinely think split because of ideological differences, which is kinda retärded for a country that already split from the USSR for no good reason. Albania was like the friend who loves their friend more than vice versa and always begged and grovelled for China's support. It would have been much smarter to stay neutral in a way similar to Yugoslavia and to have worked more with other Balkan fellas.
