Dawg this is exactly what people mean when they say we don’t actually engage in discussion or have no talking points. Dude is actually engaging with us in a respectful manner and learn and here you are squandering the opportunity to teach because you wanna be a smartass. Cut it out.

This is what i meant, thank you

Yeah bro sorry to tell you but it is what it is. This site ain't the place for winning people over

and there's nothing wrong with my post anyway, its simply the truth. In the end, if youre all passionate about luxury and super nice cars, well it sucks for you but that aint gonna be a priority in a socialist society. nothing in my post was an attack on him, but im not gonna sit here and pander either.

    Based pan-africanism

I'm actually in the process of designing a website that gives a platform to African content creators and writers who subscribe to pan africanism. It should be launching later this month

that makes sense. Its not super important to me personally, but the example came to mind because I have a few friends who are car fanatics, so it just made me wonder what place expensive passions like that would have in a socialist society.

Why does socialism involve transitioning away from a car/air based society? wouldn't that be moving backwards?

Because cars are an inefficient mode of transportation

The thing is that cars are needlessly dangerous, alienating, wasteful, and unnecessary.

We don’t need to have cars in a world where oil barons don’t exist and in turn need to make money selling gasoline. Rather than building cities around cars, they’d be built around foot traffic and light rail. Sure we’d need cars in rural towns or for small tasks like when you’re buying larger items like hardware or lumber or whatever but for the primary mode of transport to be a free-moving metal box that you have to manually control is just something we don’t need

but with a world that is literally built around cars, how is it possible to change that? Roads are everywhere and everything is built with automobile transportation in mind.

Somethings should simply be torn up as started from scratch. Other things can be reappropriated. Much of our infrastructure wasn’t constructed that long ago, it’s not like we can’t just rebuild in a better way

S***, it means opportunities for more jobs too

Europe was actually very car-centric in the mid-late 20th century but they’ve reverted back to foot traffic since the Cold War ended

    And it does wonders

I can get behind that, but realistically, it seems like it would be very difficult to convince an entire country to start from scratch.

I agree that a lot of the people on this site are ignorant as hell, yes. However when the rare opportunity comes to teach don’t just automatically jump to attack those seeking knowledge especially when they have proved they are serious about discussion. And honestly if you don’t think you can win hearts and educate why are you even here? To stroke your own ego and show off your so called superiority and intelligence?

I agree. I think proving that we have best interests in mind should come before we perform massive undertakings like infrastructure revamping. And that can come pretty easily through labor rights, healthcare, a better democratic system, and the like

Yeah lol multiple generations of propaganda does that

Plenty of cities are moving away from cars eg Beijing, London, Madrid. OP says inter-city transport would stay mostly in tact so its not like the changes would be that drastic

Yep! But the thing about socialism is that it’s not just about you and me, but about everyone down the line as well. I’ll plant the seed and miss out on the shade for the sake of my grandkids enjoying it you dig

That's one thing people fail to understand. The likelihood of you and i seeing a socialist world in our lifetimes is very slim but that doesn't mean we can't leave the blueprints and carry on the struggle much like the people before us did. Political education is the foundation because people just simply dont know of any alternative to what we have now

if I can get concert tickets and music equipment at a reasonable price and live comfortably I think I'd be satisfied. I've never really cared much for huge houses or anything like that. I perfer experiences to possessions (even though some possessions can lead to experiences)

I feel like a lot of people deep down have this same mindset, but have been conditioned to love consuming, ya know.
