"What is the economy, at the foundation it is labor"
"Capital equipment is just distilled labor"
wait wtf is this
It’s truly pathetic how I almost all my waking hours are centered and focused on my labor.
I wake up in the morning early enough so that I can have time to prepare for work. Then I go to work. Work the entire day, and commute home so I can prepare a dinner that’s usually my first real complete meal of the day. By the time that’s done I have about an hour of free-time that’s either spent watching television, or putting in some extra work-related labor from home to prove to my employer that I’m deserving of my job. Then I go to bed so I have enough energy to put in another day of labor.
All of this just so I can be paid enough just to cover my basic needs and literally nothing else. Dawg, wtf does freedom even mean in this country?

Just another weird but very ambitious idea by Elon Musk that will never actually come to fruition
But those things he said are pretty interesting tho

the s*** you going thru preparing you to be a strong and experienced individual i’m sorry it feels like that rn. but you going to make it thru. they can’t hold you like this for long
I would feel better about my situation if we were in a system that was even remotely merit based.
I’m 26, and been grinding towards my goals since I was teenager. I’ve overachieved every step of the way and have done just about everything the “the right way” yet it still feels like I’ve run into wall I can’t break through.
Wages everywhere have been stagnant for years and the cost of living climbs every year. Even the better opportunities in front of me don’t offer any relief from this. Like no amount of work I put in will never top the advantage of just having rich parents with connections.
Can I still call myself a socialist after investing in the stock market? I set up a Roth IRA bc I wanna have some kind of security in my future, but I felt a little weird about it tbh, like I was just giving in to the system I'm so critical of
For context I don't have a fancy good paying job or anything, I work 2 pretty basic jobs at 15/hr

of course
i know how you feel, but not setting up something like that is basically securing your financial failure
only so much you can give - just depends on your priorities. could you be a full time organizer and give up on the security of your future? (acting as if they're mutually exclusive, you can't have a retirement account and be a full time organizer lmfao)
nevertheless, yeah. you could give up on all of that. do i blame you for giving up on your financial future? no, not everyone has that capacity. people give differing amounts of their energy to the movement

What's up y'all, I have a couple questions:
Can socialism be used to create a slave class?
Does the UBI stem from Socialism?
Thoughts on the UBI lol

No
And no

I don't really understand the first question but I guess prison labor in the USSR and China as it was thought that hard work labour would reform the person. As in other means I dont think so but socialism/communism can be used to push abhorrent regimens that had nothing to do with them like Pol Pot regime.
The first person to think of UBI was Thomas Paine in the form of lump gold to everyone who reaches adulthood.
My personally thoughts on UBI is I guess akin to the marxist protectionism and free trade debate. Where Free trade in this contest tends to be progressive and speed up capitalist development, and protectionism is reactionary and supports the status quo. In real world example look at NAFTA which was a free trade agreement, In Mexico it got rid of the tariffs on their agriculture sector + with the movement of manufacturing jobs to Mexico urban areas lead to many people moving to urban centres for new jobs, and the people who couldn't find jobs or places to live in these urban centres started crossing the border lol. So NAFTA killed Mexico agriculture and made them reliant on USA agriculture, and thats not even talking about all the jobs lost in USA, like 100,000 just in Ohio alone. So the free trade agreement in this context was progressive (speeding up capitalist development) it was also insanely painful to the working class.
Sorry for the tangent but I find the UBI in the same vein, it well help the working class no doubt but it might also placate them or be used an excuse for any further help towards the working class as the UBI absolutely wont be enough and doesnt solve any inherent contradictions in capitalism, its just in my opinion capitalism grasping at last straws on its hopeful deathbed, also would probably see more imperialist action occurring in order to support the UBI. Communist should support UBI but also dont forget to hammer in that its not enough.
No socialism cannot creates a slave class
@Bestowed
This is an ahistorical way to look at society, why would the productive forces of an economy revert back to the 1400s? This has never happened because slavery is wildly inefficient
Plus slavery began solely for profit; if there is no profit incentive anymore then there is no reason to have slaves
Welfare doesn't equal socialism
Socialism is getting the full value from your labor and that is enough to thrive - that isn't welfare.
Capitalism is when you get 1/8 the value from your labor and get subsidized from the government to survive - that is welfare
