Well f*** the first thing. Homestead life >> stupid commy life
Dude, don't listen to him
There are no "two definitions of socialism"
@dedication
I sympathize with you because I am the same way, I enjoy farming and I have a community plot in my city.
I can't realistically go and start my own farm. I don't have enough money or tools to do that. Under socialism, more people will be able to start farming because there will be substantial land reform. People will be given land from large landowners who do nothing with it.
If you're interested, look up Organiponicos on Wikipedia and YouTube. Pretty cool organic farming trechnique that Cuba made up. It's honestly beautiful, they started farming all over Havana.

so are you all communists then?
being able to have private land is a must for me. i hate communal s***.
but anyone can start a homestead you dont have to have a bunch of land. chickens dont need much space and they can provide you with breakfast everyday. baby chickens cost like 25 cents
ill look up organiponics

communism doesn’t mean you have to share your land directly
personal property will exist just not private property

is land not private property?
is land not private property?
nah dude it's not like you're going to share your house with your neighbor
and yeah you can have your own sustinence plot alongside your house. Your OWN. it happened in maos China
not everything is shared, that's just f***ing bogus propaganda you learn in a capitalist countries school
Yeah, many things are shared. Things like blueprints to factories or seeds or tools are shared. These are the means of the production.
Like at first China was a semifuedal country with no wealth at all. They tried to do individual farming to feed the population but it didn't work - no one could afford tools. (This is a direct refutation to your idea that "anyone can pick up homesteading")
Why would they let their neighbors starve? So, the government decided people who own tools should share the tools with their neighbors, and get paid a bit extra for that. eventually enough wealth was generated for all to have their own tools.
Same thing with the factories. There's one big rich factory in a province, a poor one. Why would they let their neighbors starve? The big rich factory shares its engineers, ideas, etc. because they are working for the sustinence of the entire country as whole rather for their own gain.
The entire notion of business / living is flipped on its head. You aren't producing for profit, you are producing for yourself and your people around you.
is land not private property?
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm not that well-versed in theory.
In leftist thinking, there is a significant difference between personal property and private property. The former being obviously existant and necessary in a society, the latter being abolished. It is a big myth that everything is shared.
Personal property is the relationship between individual and object. Things that you personally own and use. Consumer goods, your car, the land that your house is situated on and that you homestead on, etc,.
Private property is the relationship between owner and worker. Capital, means of production, most financial instruments, ownership of environments. Aspects of the economy that remove social ownership of the workers' labor.
This is a very layman and theory-based overview though, because real-life private property is a lot more complicated and goes a lot deeper than simply "means of production".
The line also slightly changes between the two whether you're talking about anarchist, communist, or socialist thought.

But there's multiple other interpretations aside from those equating social democracies with socialism. You're taking the Marxist interpretation to be the only correct one

homesteading isnt individual farming.
Homesteading as in growing a few crops or raising small animals like goats and chickens. It wouldn't be 100% self reliant
