I’m starting with Ernest Mandel’s Introduction to Marxist Economic Theory
https://www.marxists.org/archive/mandel/1967/intromet/index.htm
Great recommendation
If you ever got the chance to relocate, would you take it
Depends where but I have no fundamental qualm about leaving the US
it's very doubtful we'll see revolution in the USA ever. I hope there is at some point, and there have been a handful of notable efforts decades ago, but ever since the 80s the country's been 100% cooked wrt socialism
It’s not necessary at all and is way more obscure and difficult to read than Capital. You should only be touching that after Capital if anything
I read all three volumes without all that other s***
Regardless, a beginner doesn’t need to be touching any of this stuff yet
I got scared of the book when I saw the page count and read the other two as a result
Go with @PhilipMorris recommendations as he's probably the sharpest person itt wrt Marxist theory
I don't regret starting with the Manifesto though. I had no idea what a good bulk of that book meant when I first read it but I liked the energy behind it and it inspired me to read more Marx/Engels after that. When I went back to read the Manifesto again that s*** hit even harder than it did the first time bc I knew what he was talking about
reading list tend to be useless imo just read whatever topic ur interested in and have people u can ask questions with and ur good
When I seize the means of production for myself imma share with all y'all

How do y'all feel about UFOs?
They are entirely inconsequential to our political and economic landscape
How do y'all feel about UFOs?
Magic city VIP I'm with my stripper hoe
So many hundreds in the air thought it was UFO
I feel like some communists approach Marx with the wrong mindset, what's important is Marx's framework, not necessarily any given conclusion he came to with it. There is no universe where this 19th century german man is gonna bat 100.
Yes the necessary international revolution did not occur, what now? Are the Soviets to throw their arms up and let White Terror envelop the country? Should they have let the holocaust happen 20 years earlier?
Oh the Chinese communists should just vibe and let Chiang develop a modern bourgeois state? Well you're gonna want to sit down for this, Chiang doesn't seem very interested in doing that! What now?
Any worthwhile political ideology is meant to inform political action in the present, otherwise its completely useless. This is not to say it doesn't matter that the Soviets were isolated or China was backwards, but their communists found themselves in power regardless and they played with the cards they were dealt. Their projects were "revisionist" from the very beginning. This is not to excuse their excesses/mistakes, but its important to acknowledge the circumstances.
Maybe that's the contradiction of 20th century socialism. The countries most materially conducive to socialist construction were the least socially receptive to it, while the countries most socially receptive to it were the least materially conducive for it. Or were they really? Did the Soviets/CPC simply fail to act accordingly? Is that because the circumstances which saw them take power turn them into incapable actors? Or again were external historical circumstances too hostile to their project anyways. I do think its true the most successful socialist movements disconnected themselves from the workers in the process of taking power. But that returns to the question of present action, what else could The Bolsheviks have done in the civil war? Who else could the CPC look to but the peasantry after 1927?

Marx didn’t say anything about any of that stuff

I will apologize to Arcade Thug without snarkiness or irony
Please drop the link if I am still welcome to join
I will take my time to type long-form, nuanced messages instead of sporadically shooting out one-liners like a tool
Sorry for being a tool
And I apologize for calling East Germany a joke
Though I do still stand by the concept that socialist societies that are not brought forth through the mass-participation of a pro-socialist working class, or at least a strong segment of that class, can create vulnerabilities in the success of the socialist society at hand that may not present themselves as easily in revolutionary socialist societies

I will bring it before the Politburo.
Greetings comrades, Omaha Tenants United is asking for your help. Please call if you are able. We’ve had success with this strategy before, landlords get f***ing shook when they start getting calls from all over the country. One time we had people as far as China calling in and successfully stopped an eviction as a result
URGENT: We are calling upon all our followers to take quick action TODAY to help stop an unconscionable eviction. After raising her rent by 25% last year, Keystone Villas Senior Living is attempting to evict their resident, Joan Wotjtkiewicz, TOMORROW. Joan is an elderly, disabled woman, and Keystone plans to evict her tomorrow in sub-zero temperatures. From the KETV article:
“Each month, Wojtkiewicz gets about $1,000 from social security and disability. With her rent raised to about $800 monthly, she's left with only $50 a week for food and everything else”
Joan has fallen behind on rent due to her landlord’s predatory behavior, forcing her to choose between food, medical treatment, and a roof over her head. Keystone is callously willing to kick a woman onto the street in horrific conditions. We need everyone to contact Keystone ASAP and tell them “LET JOAN STAY”.
Call Keystone at (402) 572-5750 and ask to speak to Executive Director Jennifer Hopkins. If you can’t speak to anyone, floof their voicemail with messages, calling them out on their sick behavior and demanding that they LET JOAN STAY. We need as many people as soon as possible to call in and show solidarity with Joan. We cannot let these predators treat our neighbors like this. Please share far and wide and ask your friends and family to do the same. KETV article in the comments.
