why did everyone leave for the discord?
We are currently in exile due to bourgeois repression, kind of the same situation that Marx and Lenin were in

i’ve come around a lot to communism but i still think the society envisioned by Plato, even if admittedly impossible to realise, and improbable to sustain, is the best a society could be

So basically fascism lol?

Damn Social Democracy really is the left wing of fascism
What do you think Plato's ideal society is
impossible to achieve. it’s a metaphor and expression of a just individual at the societal level. a thought experiment if you will. i don’t believe it’s fascism because:
a) it’s impossible to achieve by its creators own admission. fascism is extremely possible to achieve
b) the ‘philosopher king’ would rather do philosophy in pursuit of ‘the good’ than rule. this contrasts fascist fetishisation of power. the ideal ruler to plato is someone who doesn’t want to rule. i don’t believe the same is true in fascism
c) actual fascism we have bore witness to bears far more similarity to what Plato describes as a tyrannical society

Taken at face value Fascism is also impossible to achieve.
I won't call any premodern political philosophy Fascist, but you can see many themes found Fascism when it comes to Platos ideal society. His belief that social hierarchy is not only justifiable but desirable, and that class harmony is achievable through a transcendental national identity is quintessential to Fascism. There are some liberal even communist seeming ideas in the Republic, but Socrates seems driven by rightist/fascistic ideas more than anything.
I don't really understand why you would come around to Communism if your ideal society is Plato's. If you are wedded to its ideals, some variant of Fascism/far right political philosophy seems much more apt than Communism imo.

an ideology of fascism can be assumed but the conditions of ideal fascism are materially impossible

when you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.
don’t assume. think
i also didn’t touch on how Plato’s position of women in society is so different to any practical or theoretical vision of fascism it breaks the likeness.
i would go so far as to argue that calling Plato’s ideal state proto fascist (which to be fair, no one said explicitly), is like saying that stone age tribes were proto communist. sure you got the lack of private property in common but it more or less ends there

Wrong definition, I mean assume, as in to have

in that case fair enough, no argument
i do still think that it isn’t apt to call Plato a fascist on the back of my other arguments though

Plato can’t be fascist, he was never capitalist! I’m simply saying fascism can’t be achieved

oh interesting. will have to read more on it, i’ve only ever read ur fascism as my reference point to how that tyrannical ideology works

I think of it very basically, in that fascism attempts to forge a history long discarded, trying to fight the unwinnable battle of turning back time
Fair to say the whole "Germany" thing is a failure. 153 years and nothing goods come out of it... should just go back to a thousand principalities at least they won't have the power to act on their vile impulses!
