Straight out of /leftypol/, but I don’t even think they would have a take like this

Juche fans are my favorite type of left-Twitter brainrot, kinda rare but worth it in its most concentrated form

Romania is so s***tily run that a very sizable chunk of the country remember Nicolae Ceaușescu fondly in retrospect

You can also call me anti-gay if you don't mind
But I still call you 'stupid white man'

He actually says "stupid white man" with English words, I think he was quoting the Michael Moore book

Parenti is quite infamous for this, he went the extra mile and was the leader of some Milosevic support group in the U.S. back in the 90s

Also Chomsky explicitly denied a genocide took place

That's true, and I have problems with both to a decent degree already. There's a distinction to be made between hating NATO and not supporting the bombing and actually being a supporter of some far-right war criminal.

Ah okay. I’m not a big fan of either of them so wasn’t aware they had positions like that on this

But it makes sense they would think that lol. Odd ducks.

What makes you have such a low opinion of Parenti?

I don't think he's really contributed anything in terms of theory or anything obviously but I think he's great as an introduction. His way of speaking is definitely is something I think we can learn from when it comes to how you talk to the uninitiated imo

And yeah Chomsky is an annoying anarchist but I still think there's some value in him too

    Even coop man Richard Wolff

They all got their heart in the right place maybe chomsky a lil less tho

im less friendly to Chomsky due to his intellectual closeness where he wont even try to understand something like dialectics and just write it off as non sense

I probably should have been a bit more precise, when I say “not a big fan” I don’t mean that I have a “low” opinion of Parenti, although I do legitimately despise Chomsky so I shouldn’t have used this phrase to describe both

I think Parenti is good and useful for deprogramming liberal brain rot histories, and he’s someone I would recommend anyone flirting with the left to read as a good starting point

That being said I do find him to be a bit of your typical post 50s “orthodox” ML, which leads him to not have a great grasp of socialism. Like many of that stripe, he tends to emphasize form over content, and is inclined to simply valorize any state that proclaims itself to be socialist, or in this case, anyone that simply is opposed to NATO. He has a habit of being like many Twitter MLs who seem to simply want to “have a team to root for”, when the depressing reality is often that neither of the major geopolitical actors in a given situation are worth rooting for, and coming up with a thorough and correct a***ysis of a situation is unfortunately much more difficult and complicated. I think his brand of ML doesn’t tend to acknowledge the existence of social-imperialism or have a proper understanding of socialist transition, which leads him to not see how capitalist restoration can and does occur, and this leads to a lot of not great conclusions.

I guess I mean I don’t think he’s bad, and again, I do legitimately think he’s useful, but he can just fall into simplistic trappings that comes with a certain type of post-Stalin Marxism-Leninism

I've read some of to kill a nation and listened to his lecture about Yugoslavia and I wouldn't say he was rooting for Milosevic at all or thought that he was worthy of any praise

I’ll listen to it, I haven’t read/heard any of his stuff on that topic and like I said it’s something I’m rather ignorant of to begin with so I am interested to hear what he has to say

My post was moreso in reference to what he and others perceive to be AES countries

Principles of Communism by Engels if you need an extremely basic starting point

If you want a detailed, comprehensive, dive into things, Anti Duhring by Engels is a great one
