AOC said u can be a capitalist and democratic socialist at the same time.. and said that reading theory is classist lol
She's worth supporting if we look at our options rn but lets not act like she's something she's not
she lying like hell
But anyway i PROMISE u reading is not classist 💯💯
nah i def agree. i'm just tryna rationalize why she would say that... but by extension it seems like any type of reading would be classist, with her logic...
i know america is bad but you guys dont do near enough to decry uighur genocide

well i mean... technically 'democratic socialism' still allows for a lot of capitalist structure and there are just certain socialist elements,
but it sounds weird the way she's phrasing it, idk if she's trying to get more people that are 'capitalist' or pro-capitalist to make concessions to dem socialism, which would be somewhat better than not, although it just sounds kinda dumb
that being said idek how it feels to even be relatively labelled socialist in the middle of the US govt that nearly always has, and is trying so hard to combat it

I would say looking down on the 'uneducated' for the singular fact that they don't have a higher education / degree could def be classist though.
I was abt to say my mom read marx too but then i remembered she's the daughter of a feudal lord
ayo bruh this sound crazy in the context of this thread
looking down on someone for not knowing theory and acting like they're lesser for not having a larger education could def be classist, but learning it is not classist wtf

My mom was an active member of a revolutionary communist Marxist Leninist party in a feudal household.. rly made me respek her even more when i found dat out in my journey of becoming a commie

bernie is kind of the reason for this mistake
a lot of social democrats think they're democratic socialists.
what made you guys transition from being a soc dem to a socialist.
i feel like im in a transitionary period rn politically. i havent read much marxist theory tho.

I’m very new to Marxist theory, only been reading since August.
But I had always been somewhat interested in communism when I was in middle school, early high school. I never bought into the whole “communismisevil” that’s taught in school.
In 2016 I couldn’t vote but really got behind the Bernie campaign
In 2018, I supported other “SocDems”
Last year I started to embrace socialism but “Democratically” as I thought it was the best option, that revolution was too far or impossible.
In 2019 and early 2020 I was a self proclaimed Dem Socialist. But after working for the Bernie campaign, I realized US Democracy was hopeless.
That Social Democracy isn’t enough and the whole achieving Socialism by shifting Dems left through the DSA is extremely revisionist.
The only true option is building a unified front of workers locked arm in arm to oppose the system. It’s not something that will be easy to achieve but it’s well worth it to fight for it.
I would highly recommend joining a Socialist organization near you. For me as someone new to Marxism they’ve been able to help me with a lot as I grow my knowledge of theory.
You’ll also be able to get on the street and help raise awareness of the contradictions in capitalism.
what made you think that social democracy wasnt enough?
i almost felt the opposite after the 2016 bernie run. he had radicalized millions of people and had brought some of these ideas to the forefront. 4 years later and a $15 mininum wage is even supported by someone like biden.

a lot of social democrats think they're democratic socialists.
US overall sweeped any valuable info about socialism under the rug post-cold war and i feel like since bernie gained ground and 2018 midterms some more progressives got in, this generation is finally giving it a fair consideration, i hope it just grows until something really changes for the better
like it used 2 be a socialist party, then progressive party etc...pretty sure... but then it went to bullshit ass 2 party system

i'll have 2 look more at the specific differences between dem-soc, soc-dem and socialism to really be specific to what though
all i know is I've found a lot of valuable perspective in Marxism and I also do think so-labelled 'socialist' countries who still heavily contribute to industries that exploit labor in wherever they get their products/goods haven't really eliminated all the negatives of capitalism yet

yeah im hopeful
i remember seeing a gallop poll about dem constituents being more favorable towards socialism than capitalism

Biden was campaigning he’s not going to actually enact a national $15 dollar minimum wage or any of the other progressive policies he said

this isnt true. presidents tend to keep 60% of their promises. $15 is the democratic platform in 2020. However, that doesnt mean that it'll be passed by the senate.

good thing about going in with no expectations for him is that if something good happens like that i’ll just be like
