Whats the witch trials paradox
its an ethical dilemma in legal/economic study based on the dissonance between local factions which emerge during post-colonial statebuilding and contrasting opinions of factions with actions of the colonizers themselves
without getting too into detail so i don't write like 18 paragraphs, it's basically a examination of arguments between parties within the now-existing states once colonizers left countries, mostly about how to deal with both cultural & infrastructural needs in light of colonization
it gets its name specifically because of circumstances related to countries' constitutions in East Indies/Micronesia, i believe specifically it's from the indigenous Yap people. Essentially once colonizers left, there was a major emergence of factions when a post-colonial state was being formed; some loved the idea of a formal post-colonial constitutional government as it allowed them to formalize tribal codes in a way outsiders would be forced to recognize, and wanted to write into their constitution a formalized legal process for witch trials. Others believed writing a formal constitution was a fruitless endeavor and served no purpose. Others believed forming tribal codes was a bad thing because having tribal codes in a constitution to begin with would make the country seem backwards and uneducated (ironically in doing so this specific dilemma created an ethical issue of if tribes were in denial of their own indigenous traditions in light of colonial standards).
Much of the debate between state-building factions essentially boiled down to "was colonization actually a good thing for state-building ambitions (even by local cultural standards)". this question is really what separates massive swathes of modern political factions from each other even, still, in post-colonial countries besides just externally. there are certainly still political factions in, say, india who are like "welllll colonization wasn't good, but...." etc. which external colonial sympathizers see as validation.

i particularly know when he talks about "intellectuals" from foreign countries being as imperialist propaganda, such as lib Iraqi writers living abroad being cited by the US for reasons why Iraq should be invaded. The whole "comprador intellectual" theory in that section of the book is really interesting.

@Asaki thank you for the Plato Republic Recommendation
Enjoy.
I will warn you tho that Republic is a hard read, but a rewarding one. It's not the type of dialogue you read just once and move on. I learn something new about what the f*** that Athenian schizo was talking about multiple millennia ago every time I crack it open.
Go slow and outline. Think of the bigger picture of what he's trying to convey each chapter.
Enjoy.

Reminds me it is kinda crazy how many statues of Nazi officers there in this country which never saw a single German bullet cross its borders.
