would we all make the same amount of money under socialism?

Copy and paste something front Reddit - /r/communism101 is a decent source:

I believe the party line is "for each according to his ability, to each according to his need."

The basic idea being that some people may be best suited for work which nobody wants to do (or some people may want to do it).

For example, a job like the early-morning garbage collector may seem undesirable to most (early mornings and being around trash), but some people may think the hours are nice because they free up the rest of their day, and may enjoy being out and about.

Also, there could be other incentives to do less desirable jobs. For instance, that job could have shorter hours (so trash collectors only have 20 hour weeks, vs. 40 hours).

In the end, I also think many jobs have a stigma because they are low-wage and seen as low-class. A socialist system would dismantle the idea that manual labor is shameful, and value everyone's contribution to society. This would wildly decrease the number of "undesirable" jobs, since I believe humans get a great sense of accomplishment from taking on difficult and dirty tasks.

And well, short answer, your wage depends on how much you produce, usually. Depends on the country implementing socialism.

When communism is reached then wages and money and the state are abolished, but that's a whole other thing that will take worldwide socialism

seems like there would still be socio-economic classes

no one said classes cease to exist under socialism. they cease to exist under communism. in socialism, the working class, the proletariat, comes to dominate the capitalist class, and establishes its dictatorships.

I grew up pretty poor from an immigrant family and was able to succeed and get to a better place by 21

I didn't have anything special going for me besides good parents who kept me grounded and some government grants that relieved part of my student loans

I probably will be upper middle class at best by working my current career and my fiancé will too who grew up as a first gen as well

Together at 24 and 22 our incomes are close to 200k close out of school

She's pretty intelligent and has a really great job, while I'm average and have a decent one

We both just worked through our poor situations and the system and had a plan to make more money/get certain jobs after school. The current system worked for us.

Our kids will be much better off than us, probably attend better schools growing up, and will probably have cushion to take more risky early financial decisions to make more rewards.

Capitalism basically worked for the both of us and people we know who were like us.

    We're not an anomaly.

Unless a real socialist economic system can be shown to me and have proven success I will never cosign an ideology which hasn't shown me something tangible and proven to work better.

You are an exception, not a rule. There are thousands, perhaps millions, in your exact situation who failed and we will never hear about, due to circumstances beyond their control, especially those who do not live in America, but instead in the global south and every day live with the cloud of imperialism over their heads. Is capitalism working for them? And every socialist government has improved the lives of the people over what they previously had, despite the constant efforts of America and other western nations in insuring that doesn't happen.

how would socialism in the usa effect global south?

uh the US is the number one imperialist country in the world. Socialism is not imperialist, and therefore we will not be engaged in the exploitation of the global south for their wealth and resources.

what if the majority of workers are okay with it? even if workers in usa own means of production that doesnt mean they wouldnt be okay with "exploiting" the global south. lots of people dont think about other countries.

then it would not be socialist. it would be reactionary. you cannot be an imperialist and be socialist, simple as that.
