u just went in a weird direction wit that one
i kinda see what u saying but
idk I'm deeply intrigued bout how we're programmed to feel and thing certain things
And OP of the post I was commenting on is fully certain that those are his own thoughts - or better - that those are general truths humans are just supposed to feel
But truth is that you probably think what you were fed
And if you feed a kid a culture of sharing and helping less fortunate he's gonna think it's normal and there's no other way
Same way no one is born racist they are just programmed that way by their surroundings
I think Socialism comes down to if humans are naturally selfish or not
I think it comes down to putting safeguards down against greedier paths we can go down if tempted
It doesn't
Well I would assume if Human nature was naturally selfish Socialism would fail
A lot of it is pretty intimidating. I'm not stupid by any means, but sometimes I feel like I'm not smart enough to understand a lot of the theory. I've read Fundamentals of Communism, which is pretty straightforward and easy to understand. Then The Communist Manifesto, which was also pretty easy. Then I tried to read Das Kapital and was like f*** this. It made my head hurt. I also have a hard time retaining the information that I read. I'll be reading and stuff will make sense while I'm reading it, but a few weeks down the line I may only remember bits and pieces.
I also think that it would be disingenuous to call myself one, because while socialism sounds right to me, I don't actually do any type of organizing. I spend most of my time at work, and when I'm not doing that, I'm spending time with my family or at home. I don't know any other people that really share my political ideals. Most of the people in my life are either apolitical or liberals.
That's why it can be best to read this stuff in a group setting or to highlight passages you deem important and think you need to think more critically on. Capital is hard but there are companion readers to it and I like hadas theirs peoples guide to capitalism as a sort of modern day language version of it in its simplest form
I think it comes down to putting safeguards down against greedier paths we can go down if tempted
Yeah but that’s the big problem, I don’t think humans are going to let go of their selfish thoughts for the greater good especially how it’s so ingrained in us in American society
Well I would assume if Human nature was naturally selfish Socialism would fail
Human nature is not separable from environment. Our ancestors lived communally, each according to their needs
"Theres a level of interest"
"Only came in here in support of you"
Two contradicting statements. And I told you why. If all you are concerned about is making your money then idk what to tell you..Also we dont have to pretend you dont have posts regarding owning property and being a business owner. It's almost obvious as to why you wouldn't be a socialist. If you're truly ignorant to the failings of capitalism then perhaps you can learn and be better. But if you dont care to learn, then theres no point. This thread also isn't a "come learn about socialism thread "
They're not contradicting statements at all. I came into the thread cus the title was interested. You asked in the OP, why am I not a socialist? I gave a response. You dismissed my s*** and called me dumb. I answered your question just like you asked.
And all the rest of your post is assumptions you're making to back up your point. My business goals have nothing to do with what I think socialism or capitalism.
The only thing I learned in this conversation is that you'll dismiss people's responses to your questions. We haven't begun to talk anything about the subject matter that drew me to this thread. You haven't even told me your thoughts on the topic, or even gauged what I know about it, if anything at all. You haven't made any attempt to discover what I'm willing to learn. You assumed and dismissed me.

Then we can quit all the bullshit and you can just give your thoughts instead of doing this run around nonsense

I did give my thoughts. You dismissed it. It's like you're wanting me to give a specific response.

Yes but Humans were in their own small tribes, they would obviously be loyal to them and them alone. They would kill, beat and r*pe any outsiders
I don't even know how what I said doesn't qualify as a response to the question you asked. You just totally blew me off and made assumptions about me to support your dismissal of my response.
Perhaps if communalism inside small groups was adopted it would work but I don’t think it would ever work inside a large society
Yeah but that’s the big problem, I don’t think humans are going to let go of their selfish thoughts for the greater good especially how it’s so ingrained in us in American society
I think worker ownership of their workplaces is an attainable goal at least in the next few decades,
Hopefully healthcare, better access/funding to education for everyone etc...
it's a shame that it took a brutal pandemic for dems to realize that giving proportionate money to families with children was needed though,
If they can get their head outta their ass long enough to pass more bills while they have majority things can get set in the right direction

My response wasn't even in support of capitalism or socialism. I was totally open to any responding viewpoint. But what I got was dismissal and writing me off as dumb all because I answered your question.

I disagree, many things like the Pandemic have happened in American history and the propaganda machine worked just enough to save Capitalist America, Great Depression for example
I did give my thoughts. You dismissed it. It's like you're wanting me to give a specific response.
King of talking in circles. Your thoughts were you want to make money and do what you love. And then admitted you haven't given any thought to the larger economic systems at play and how they impact those goals. So, if you havent thought about it, what are you here for? Now you're saying you haven't given your thoughts on capitalism or socialism. So go ahead and give your thoughts

there's been an uptick in class consciousness the past decade but unfortunately there's also been a commitment to extreme stupidity as well so it's just a matter of which one outweighs the other

And im not very optimistic but I think some good changes could happened if the right things fell in place
I'm not counting on it but i hope as many good things happen as possible if that makes sense

I mean it’s clear the Media is brainwashing Americans

I’m very pessimistic against any class consciousness ever happening in this nation

retweet
I mean both left or right wing will say that but they won't acknowledge their flavor of media is also doing this to them lol, they're almost there

Isn't the whole point of this thread, to get people to think about one philosophy over the other??
I gave my thoughts. You dismissed them. I said, my thoughts weren't in support of capitalism or socialism. I gave my thoughts. You dismissed them.

Holy f***
Holy f***
Exactly. But all this could have been avoided if you had just been a real nigga, instead of being the opposite of that and trying to show what an arse you can be by immediately dismissing someone you think is beneath you.
