A lot of it is pretty intimidating. I'm not stupid by any means, but sometimes I feel like I'm not smart enough to understand a lot of the theory. I've read Fundamentals of Communism, which is pretty straightforward and easy to understand. Then The Communist Manifesto, which was also pretty easy. Then I tried to read Das Kapital and was like f*** this. It made my head hurt. I also have a hard time retaining the information that I read. I'll be reading and stuff will make sense while I'm reading it, but a few weeks down the line I may only remember bits and pieces.

I also think that it would be disingenuous to call myself one, because while socialism sounds right to me, I don't actually do any type of organizing. I spend most of my time at work, and when I'm not doing that, I'm spending time with my family or at home. I don't know any other people that really share my political ideals. Most of the people in my life are either apolitical or liberals.

Two contradicting statements. And I told you why. If all you are concerned about is making your money then idk what to tell you..Also we dont have to pretend you dont have posts regarding owning property and being a business owner. It's almost obvious as to why you wouldn't be a socialist. If you're truly ignorant to the failings of capitalism then perhaps you can learn and be better. But if you dont care to learn, then theres no point. This thread also isn't a "come learn about socialism thread "

They're not contradicting statements at all. I came into the thread cus the title was interested. You asked in the OP, why am I not a socialist? I gave a response. You dismissed my s*** and called me dumb. I answered your question just like you asked.

And all the rest of your post is assumptions you're making to back up your point. My business goals have nothing to do with what I think socialism or capitalism.

The only thing I learned in this conversation is that you'll dismiss people's responses to your questions. We haven't begun to talk anything about the subject matter that drew me to this thread. You haven't even told me your thoughts on the topic, or even gauged what I know about it, if anything at all. You haven't made any attempt to discover what I'm willing to learn. You assumed and dismissed me.

Yeah but that’s the big problem, I don’t think humans are going to let go of their selfish thoughts for the greater good especially how it’s so ingrained in us in American society

I think worker ownership of their workplaces is an attainable goal at least in the next few decades,

Hopefully healthcare, better access/funding to education for everyone etc...

it's a shame that it took a brutal pandemic for dems to realize that giving proportionate money to families with children was needed though,

If they can get their head outta their ass long enough to pass more bills while they have majority things can get set in the right direction

there's been an uptick in class consciousness the past decade but unfortunately there's also been a commitment to extreme stupidity as well so it's just a matter of which one outweighs the other

And im not very optimistic but I think some good changes could happened if the right things fell in place

I'm not counting on it but i hope as many good things happen as possible if that makes sense

And then admitted you haven't given any thought to the larger economic systems at play and how they impact those goals. So, if you havent thought about it, what are you here for?
