these cycles of copium are plentiful
they always fall back to sales/charts in any beef lmao
especially when they lost

that’s what they’ll be doing his next album cycle book it
when he still sells well, gets a couple of his token songs up on the chart they’ll push this underdog redemptive narrative of how the entire industry went against Drake and it didn’t affect him!! he’s the king!!
although this didn’t go for Kanye, who *actually* got blackballed from the industry broadly by DSPs and still scored a #1 off of it 😏
it depends on if he gets his pen working again or not. he hasn't been writing hits like he used to, he's been leaning heavily on features since the start of the 2020s, while providing the bare minimum. i'm sure he'll try much harder than he's tried with any album since scorpion, because if his next album is a bust and people don't like it, his legacy will end with "certified pedophile" and that'll be that.
Posts like this are mad disingenuous. When Drake was churning out hits like a machine, the narrative was always "all he does is make hits," "his albums are never good bodies of work," etc. Now, y'all are making it seem like he NEEDS hits to survive.
It's funny you're going back to Scorpion — an album era whose success would be impossible for ANYBODY to replicate. In case you haven't noticed, ALL of hip-hop has been on a commercial decline this decade. The reason why it seems like Drake has been the most affected is because he's been the biggest artist in the game for a long time. This narrative that he "stopped making hits" is a lie that needs to stop being spread. His songs might no longer live in the top 10 like they used to, but that's really because streaming for hip-hop has regressed to the mean since it's boom from 2015-2019 and so now, rap songs are more reliant on radio to remain stable on the charts (something that's hard to manage because pop radio remains the biggest radio format and remains committed to only playing rap songs that are by like Jack Harlow or something). Even if a rap song does really well on Urban/Rhythmic radio (both formats that Drake DOMINATES), it'll peak quick and quickly start to lose whatever audience impressions it has. You now have country songs, pop songs and afro-beat songs pulling massive streams and all of that is eating out of the streaming pie that rap once owned damn near outright and that's made pop radio more important than ever for a song's stability.
There are countless Drake singles from this decade which are multi-platinum eligible despite only spending a week or a few weeks in the top 10 so it's not that he stopped making hits. It's that his hits simply aren't sticking like they used to and that goes for damn near everyone in rap.
Drake is judged on an entirely different standard compared to everyone else in the game and you have to take that into consideration when having these discussions. You have people calling For All the Dogs a flop but it's already outsold Utopia despite being released almost 3 months later and debuting with less units because it's remained steady in its consumption. It's already the bestselling rap album released in 2023. But that's a "bust" to some of you.
Unfortunately, Drake is at the point in his career where it doesn't matter what he does. People are sick of him and it's not because his music is terrible. He's still one of the best musicians in rap. People are just tired of seeing him dominate so he can drop his best album ever and you'll see people fail to acknowledge its greatness simply because they don't like him and they'll nitpick his lyrics to find things to be offended by to justify their disdain for him (something they don't do for anyone else).
My advice to him isn't to rush back and release another album right now. He should refrain from releasing any new music at all and just continue his tour by playing Europe and other markets. After touring every market he wants, he can disappear for a few months and make people realise how important his music has been in their lives for the last 15 years. Until there's a huge public thirst for new music from him, nothing he drops (regardless of how good it is) will move the needle enough.

The only people who have used charts as a metric in this beef have been Kendrick stans so f*** off with this narrative.
outside of the diss tracks I haven’t listened to Drake in about a month. I recommended SFG and NWTS to a friend though
as much as it couldve been without killing him or throwing him in prison

Mostly out of spite. I doubt they actually care lol

They've made it VERY CLEAR that they do. They all popped out when DAMN dropped and did numbers. You'll always see them pop out when it's time to celebrate GKMC charting for 500 or 600 weeks or some other random stat like when Kendrick's tour broke the record for highest-grossing rap tour. Every fanbase cares about their fave putting up numbers and having their music be successful.
Kendrick stans just don't do it enough because he's rarely ever around and his last album didn't perform anywhere well enough to break any records but the moment Not Like Us started breaking records, they popped out again. They hate Drake/Drake fans because not only does he drop more frequently, he's a perennial record-breaker and there's always something to celebrate when it comes to him.
I'm glad they've all exposed that they really do care about numbers. It'll be noted in the future.

So you wanted Drake eliminated or some?
This beef was not gonna change nothing to either Dot or Drakes legacy!
Ye comeback was goated af tho!

Ehh, it ain't that deep. Yeah, everybody wants to see their favorite winning, but niggas will listen regardless of who else is. What I got from the sales s*** with NLU is just a mix of genuine celebration and also plain old trolling. Mostly the latter.
Also, you'll find more Kendrick fans who listen to Drake than you'll find Drake fans who listen to Kendrick. All this hate talk is exaggerated.

nobody who has more than one or two neurons firing thinks this beef is going to actually affect his numbers or his stature man
maybe for a brief stint while Not Like Us is hot, but no one is going to stop listening to Drake because he got fried, the average person doesn't even care that much
Yeah I think he knows about the pressure, and legends are made from this kind of pressure. The last time drake was being clowned on this openly was during Take Care era, even though he was successful then. If he goes back to making those undeniable hits, he'll be good in no time.
He cant! The taste changed!
All of his albums get hated on until 5 years later! Its always the same! The next one will get OD hate and eventually people will like it!

Oh, most definitely. Going by the internet and then eventually, social media, Drake's been hated his entire career. The fact that he gets so much vitriol online but he still ends every year as the most-streamed rapper tells you all you need to know. Everyone who claims to hate Drake probably listens to him more than any other rapper. That's something I definitely believe.
Drake is an idiot to let himself box into this hit maker narrative!
He is but it makes it seem like bro is a one dimensional artist! smh

I was more so referring to Kendrick having die hard fans who are ALSO fans of Drake openly.
What I've noticed especially on here is that folks want to make this beef out to be like it's always two divided camps where you absolutely cannot be a fan of drake if you're a fan of Kendrick.

Nah don't worry he can't be one dimensional when he's going from region to region collecting all of the sounds, remember?

But the entire industry did turn against him lmao. If it was something you felt didn't have any validity in all the years prior that he's been rapping about it, it's certainly something that holds weight now. You have mad rappers come out the woodworks to go at him. Everyone keeps saying it has to be Drake's fault but none of these guys has come out to really state the thing he did to them that's so terrible. You have Kendrick admitting he simply hated Drake for no reason. Until they explain what it is he did to them that's so terrible, the assumption will continue to be that they're all just jealous/envious of dude.
If Drake/Drake stans have an underdog angle to play now, it's only because Y'ALL made it so.
