There is no empathy for any illness. Only depression gets 'pity', that too because the patient isn't a nuisance to their daily lives, whenever even slight inconvenience to their own lives or beliefs occur people throw away the facade of caring about the mentally ill.

The other thing is diminishing others' experience of these disease.

Yes ideally he should have been on regular medication before but when people around you threaten to make you a zombie with meds and take your kids away, force you to go on stage even when you're not well leading to a breakdown, people fatshame you online when you take the meds, the company you work with has a clause about not taking therapy etc. it makes sense why someone had been apprehensive of taking meds.
But now if they are making amends and taking medication, I don't see what's wrong.
