Right just done with my first listen. My thoughts. I always have felt like this scene are the making some of the most innovative and interesting music available today. And this is no less. Its wild and oppresive, far from an easy listen. The opening 3 tracks serving as something of a heat test.
The production is immaculate throughout. The transitions and breakdowns in the instrumentals are top notch. Like Ensley it feels like an album. Its cohesive, not a splattering of sounds and themes thrown together. Its not an album you can just pick the odd song off of for a playlist.
Clearly influenced by Slauson, Zeroh and Brainfeeder. Kendrick too. For me the highest highs were Fk, We need mo color, Nation Tyme, On Fire Pray, and Negro. I love the sprinklings of levity thrown in where the instrumentals blend away.
However, it does feel somewhat thin. Its a tough listen and at times can feel unrewarding. For me Siifu's delivery is what makes him stand apart. Its raspy, sleepy and feels like a slow drawl. But there's not much of it on display here. But thats fine, its not meant to be that kind of album and I can respect that and still appreciate it. But when I reached the end of the album, especially with it ending on Negro I was left just craving more of that sound in particular.
Nonethless, its a special album for what it is. Unique and powerful. Im glad we have it and I'm in awe at the artistry.
wow the album cover and reactions got me extremely hyped rn, need to listen to this loud tomorrow

yeah I agree with a lot of this. It is an extremely f***ing challenging album lol.
But I am in awe of Siifu's balls releasing this lol and I'll definitely have to give more spins to try and wrap my head around this madness.
On a second listen rn it definitely feels much more atmospheric than I initially realized and his voice is in there more than it seemed at first.
