I don’t blame MIKE for cutting ties, felt like King Carter was the only one taking this s*** serious.

Medhane was not part of sLUms nor 10k, but was MIKE’s mans. I’m pretty sure he has had talks with Medhane for him to chill out / handle his relationship issues better (even if it was just allegations)

Idk much about the inner politics so idk what, but trauma and grace was a phenomenal piece of music.

You don't tour with someone you've distanced from, you definitely don't DJ for them. You don't have them on your debut album (2019) and call that track the most important on the record.

Half these lot were reactionary, performative and out to save their own skin.

I mean his debut even says in the title it was recorded 2016-2018... he says there's been rift between them since, at some point there he also moved from NY back to LA. He was probably still proud of their work together anyway and compromised his ambigious feelings toward that rap scene as a queer person. He still says those news came as a shock to him and that his main issue was this kind of machismo brother cult developing again which fails to hold misogynistic behaviour accountable.

The statement def raises questions and I've been meaning to ask him to elaborate on it. atm I only have fleeting dm contact w him so dunno if I wanna press him on it but I might still

Imo, having followed him closely that entire time, him feeling detached from that whole rap scene checks out with his other output and interviews and general move away from it all. You can call him pretentious and whatever but I've found him to be v genuine. At that show he was already performing the songs from his later EP and album... he was clearly already frustrated with the direction it was taking.

b: What makes MIKE and people around him special to me, is the going to the depths of depression, but then coming out of it, not being stuck...

SM1: Yeah. But you kind of get stuck in the performance of the cycle. I would hope to break that, even. To make a complete departure. I want to find a space I feel safe and happy in. Maybe happy is overrated, but yeah, safe.

All imma say is a lot of niggas in that scene were stabbing their day1s in cold blood to save face. as soon as some industry $$ and influences (Earl, solange, even Rocky a lil bit) came into play it changed everything. there was a lot of gross bs that happened behind the scenes & a few dudes will be probably called out for it in the next few years.

partially why slauson left SOTC and that’s why cities aviv cut ties with a lot of the sotc/ slums / slums adjacent dudes after false bs was thrown at him before he dropped mpth.

unrelated but did u know el cousteau was gonna sign to 10k (mikes label) but Rocky basically came out of nowhere and signed him to AWGE 💀

If, at the time of a rape allegation, you make a statement that you have been separated musically from a former collaborator, I would think implicit in that statement is the belief that you have indeed found their character to be severely lacking (supposedly since 2018).

If Jasper was simply making that statement to say, 'my musical goals/direction no longer lines up with Medhane's (or SOTC, etc.)', I suppose I would then ask why on earth is he making a statement for such irrelevancy at the time of a rape allegation.

That statement was put out to suggest, 'look, my hands are clean, I don't work with this guy in any capacity anymore and haven't since 2018'. Well, that's not true is it. It doesn't really matter in the slightest if his debut was recorded 2016-2018 or he was proud of the track or whatever.

Either:
1) He already found Medhane to be lacking in character - in which case don't put out a track with him. Certainly don't tour and DJ for him two years after you supposedly came to the realization you needed to separate from him.

2) He didn't care enough till the allegation.

3) For some bizarre reason he did literally just mean, 'I've been wanting to make different music than they are making'.

essentially once the industry came into the pic it was the start of the end. Earl saw what Tyler was doing with Kevin Abstract / BH and basically wanted his own version of that. so they pushed MIKE as the front man and Ade ego could t handle it, which was s***ty cause he had such a big f***ing bag in front of him but fumbled it like a yetard

but at the start MIKE/SLUMS & Kevin Abstract/BH had basically the same group of people managing them. Slums pushed to stay underground so that’s why they were pushed a bit more subtlety on SRS while BH attempted to go mainstream.
