iirc when fantano reviewed weight of the world and gave it a 4/10 he got critiqued by mavi, jay versace and a few other people for his look on black art, that he doesnt get it and should just stop reviewing it
fantano was f***ing melting and posted this legendary cringe reply

and i remember his feet of clay review where he trashed mavis verse and said it sounds like "just an angrier version of earl" so it's redudant having him on the track implying he's a total copycat
which is one of the worst takes i've ever heard
ugh an angrier version of earl makes me so sick

i’m studying away in paris and it’s something i e been excited about but im honestly scared for my life
crackers are making my friends uncomfortable and telling people behind our back « we need to be controlled »
not only that but they are now telling stories and making false narratives about us they are incredibly dangerous making us seem like violent ppl (my friends group is only black ppl. two dark skin ppl gay guy and girl, and me and this girl are mixed with black and spanish. most of us are from new york and most of these ppl are from bumble f*** towns in amerikkka)
i’m incredibly scared because these people are using hive mind tactics and i feel like theyre creating a lynch mob around us

Damn so u got other exchange students harassing you guys like this?
weirdos.
Fr contact the university about this immediately and ask them for help with this. Exchange students being harassed is very bad press for them, so it's in their interest to stop this.
If there are serious threats of violence I'd say def consider contacting the police to explain the situation, in the end I reckon it's better you making the call then them.
Stay safe man hope you get this resolved and these racists suspended

police will not help us. that is out of the question. based on other isolated experiences we are scared because we believe they will weaponize the police against us

thank you we are trying our best
i just want to be around ppl i love and respect but it bothers them. we are genuinely caring and empathetic ppl. we just are somewhat reserved for our safety

Please contact whoever you can admin wise and tell whatever friends family u have stateside. And try to get any peers who are state side to know as well or to advocate admin there to help you. That sucks

I think at the least if you're not in the banlieues you can have a bit more trust in the police than in NY, particularly if you're calling them yourself - also gives you the possibility to correct false narratives before they start acting on them best case, but obviously understand the mistrust. It's something to consider as a last resort...
Hope it won't be necessary best of luck man
S*** is crazy lotta the Black run podcasts I follow on Spotify are more for movie, comic, anime/manga, and TV shows but it's so few I've found for music that I've enjoyed long term...or have lasted long term
I'm sure they exist though. But I guess they just have a hard time lasting long because they aren't getting enough artists to join the podcast. My homie gotta podcast that he just started back up again called "SINVIL - The Podcast About Nothing" but he went back to doing it monthly instead of weekly.
Love this podcast. CineMasai never disappoints on any front
Also Navy talks about how much he and fellow artists hate being generalized with “Slums” on this
DeRap Winkel just bundled all my orders from the last 6 weeks and refunded me a ton of the shipping costs

lmao @marcusg just listening to it myself and I felt bad at that moment ngl
I def contributed to that misconception unfortunately, even though my thing was always to stress the + (now ++) and make clear that that was just a small group and everyone else people they worked with, But... no one reads texts anymore they just see the label
really baffled me the other day when I saw a bigger publication (unfortunately forgot which one) claim Navy to be part of sLUms, like that's shockingly bad journalism

Akai was saying that earlier this year in an interview around True Sky release too

a simple "+" or "++" isn't intuitive though, at the end of the day the thread title alone always lumps various artists together
it's the reason i never really liked this thread tbh
actually if you are taking on a pessimistic approach the "+" / "++" symbols can even be seen as kinda disrespectful, because of them implying some collaborators are less important appendages

I mean I agree it's not enough, just the best I was able to come up with to describe how this network of people operates. It's not just various artists they're all collaborating with each other.
It also just comes from the background of originally being mostly about MIKE, Ade, Navy, maybe like 15 people originally, shortly after SRS release, it just became this big movement which is now more like 150 people so it also like basically outgrew the label which initially made much more sense.
I still think the thread makes sense because it brings together so many smaller artists which wouldn't make very fruitful threads plus it's just that you're actually very likely to enjoy artists co-signed by "bigger" ones in the scene.
Also there definitely are some unifying aesthetic approaches here even if it's in different genres. Like MIKE and Keiyaa share a lot of sensibilities for example
What do you suggest as a better label?
