most these guys ain't part of the original slums (not even Med), but slums is is still extremely important and innovated a lot of this sound. I like referring to the scene as slums+, updated thread title to that too
The group you have in your title would be considered sLUms+ / the sLUms Collective no?
The point I was trying to make is that Akai Solo has his own sound. He's not my cup of tea and sounds nothing like this group, but I get why some people and artists like him. Just because Siifu, a sLUms affiliate, did a project and a few songs with him doesn't automatically make Akai sLUms+. Every NYC underground MC can't be apart of the sLUms Collective.
What makes sLUms & sLUms Collective, well, sLUms? It's simple, the sound, the circle, and the cosigns.

the slums collective is slums... that's just 5 people, ade, mike, jodi, booliemane and king carter. The rest is the extended circle.
I def consider Akai part of the extended circle 1) cause I do think his sound fits the vibe, a lil more aggressive than most maybe but SRS is also leaning towards aggression, and 2) he also fits that Mos Def, conscious hood rap lane, the type of s*** he says in interviews fits with views shared by Slauson or Mavi, even though he's not as well-read as those two. Plus Earl's twitter has been one of the most important platforms for this scene (he's like the godfather of it) and he's been shouting out Akai a lot. The close collaborating with others of the inner circle (siifu) is another contributor too.
Really like what mavi said about it:
"I describe it ("a cadre of artists that includes Noname, Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, Pink Siifu, and others") as a special moment in the genre, and (MAVI) corrects me. 'It’s not a moment, it’s a corner. It’s a state, not a time,' he says. 'It’s a place that we occupy that’s been occupied before by black artists who carry out this mission.' A mission of love, respect for the art, and liberation. A mission that focuses on community first rather than any single individual."

Smh. Was hoping YUNGMORPHEUS was going to stick to the boards on this one
first result google gave me when searching for earl + mike
was trying to find out if they ever produced for each other... they did not right? Cause it seems unlikely they never did collab, prolly sitting on some s*** waiting for a whole tape to come together...
What’s that MIKE! song that goes “just a little bit of love what I need”
Coin Chasa off of Resistance Man
Yo, anyone know why Rago Foot's name has been taken off the artwork for Prayers Aint Enough, and no longer credited
