Was the medhane situation the final mail in the coffin for this scene?
What makes you think she scene is done

nah, Medhane always been overrated anyway (in my humble opinion)

Of course they’re not done releasing music. I’m referring to them as a collective. Jasper has distanced himself and ade (who is a core member) does his own thing now. It seems like the movement is collapsing under its own weight, with a new slums affiliate every day. I’m not praying on they downfall, just making an observation

I’m speaking more in terms of credibility and transparency, which are things this collective has been known to be good about. I agree, medhane was only really great over slauson production

hell nah, the scene is still expanding, forming hella sub-groups, new drops still come every week. Energy is still strong. Slauson has seperated himself a bit (still seems cool with Mike, Siifu, Jay Versace and a couple others tho), and Ade has been acting dumb lately...
But meanwhile MIKE got arguably his strongest year yet, as has Siifu, Navy is finally coming into the spotlight, SOTC are about to release an incredible album, AKAI is going strong, Liv.e and Keiyaa dropped the most exciting R&B debuts in years and years, etc, etc, etc. This was an incredible year for the scene, it's the very opposite of slowing down.
Mavi and Maxo have been more quiet this year but will def have some heat in store for us 2021.

Great response. I just felt like the energy was weird after that incident. Maybe it’s just me.

I mean yeah that was a pretty big breach of credibilty with Med, but since there weren't any other callouts there isn't any reason to see everyone as fake-posing imo. (That said I don't even know how accurate the term "fake-posing" even is here, Med was never much of a feminist in his lyrics or on twitter either, while Mavi, Mike, Slauson, Siifu, Anakin and others def claim that image.)
Slauson suggested in his response that other people were capping for Med and tolerated abusive behavior, maybe even that there was more s*** going on, but we have no way of knowing what and who exactly he was talking about and whether it's still the case. Imo entirely possible he was just throwing (unnecessary) shade at the way Mavi handled the situation in the beginning

I will say that not all the guys in this movement are valid like many believe, so slauson even suggesting that made a few things line up for me. Though, I don’t think mavi is a bad guy. He just handled that whole thing very poorly.

I'd say a lot of what these guys are doing is a striving to do better, work against misogyny, capitalism, etc etc and create more of an inclusive and positive space for hip hop to exist in. It's a process, so you shouldn't judge it as a result. There's def still a lot of contradiction, partly because hip-hop culture is contradictory with what they're striving for, partly because Western society in general is contradicting with it.
There's for sure still a lot of room for development, some of the thoughts still contradict with the actions, but I already see way more effort and progress here than just about anywhere else in hip hop tbh
yeah he's one of the Low End Theory OGs right? Still got this beauty on vinyl too
yea one of the important figures of that LA / low end theory beat scene like ras g (rip) or flying lotus. dibiase is a really down to earth guy, wrote with him on the sp-forums here and there.. bit off topic but these people influenced sLums more or less
