there's no erasing the name hyperpop, so changed the thread title.

this whole scene kinda reminds me of the "chillwave" era in terms of people kinda tripping over themselves to label it
glad to see tupacarti still being ahead of the curve
i remember him posting in fauni & uno threads back in 2016, now hes into hyperpop/glitchcore, just like me!

the sample is from a cymatics future bass kit and they just reversed it for the miss the rage beat. this beat just has the original non-reversed sample

Hyperpop was never a genre on rym until recently (it got rejected a few times before it made it in) but bubblegum bass was a genre for many years and still is

it's split: the scene that actually blew up and is mostly comprised of young teenagers have decided on the name digicore coined by Bill (a writer who's published in i-D and Lyrical Lemonade); while the audience/listeners have landed on the name hyperpop--which is tricky because with that title, it bundles them with past acts who blew up years ago like Charli XCX and causes this stuffed umbrella that encompasses people who have no inkling of a connection with each other sonically.
I think the name Hyperpop will turn out like mumble rap: it'll stay around, but it'll mostly die out and won't be so widespread and overused--because all the artists being labelled that term will evolve to the point where it's clear they're not what audiences thought they were.
I also think it's quite ironic how this time around, instead of the older generation bundling a group of new, exciting artists into a box--it's the younger generation.
tl;dr - there's no getting rid of the name hyperpop, so by popularity, it is the "official name" I suppose. it's simply what caught on, and at the end of the day, the audience of mostly teenagers decided on this name and it doesn't look like anything else will overtake it. the best way to look at it is this: digicore is the younger cats who blew up via the spotify playlist and tik tok; hyperpop is what people consider artists like Charli XCX, 100 gecs, Dorian Electra, etc.
Had this on repeat for a minute
