it smacks honestly and its fun seeing a danish comeback by him. i need to rewatch the ending expeditiously because that s*** hit me like a deer in headlights.

i know that he talked about TOTDY being a very long film and not a mini-series, and maybe there's a case to be made but there's no doubt that copenhagen cowboy is just a 5 hour film. i could barely tell the episodes apart, I just had to guess based off how much time had passed

there's something for every refn fan in there

he's practically mixed all of his stuff in this from OGF, neon demon, drive and a lot of pusher. add some new supernatural, neo-noir, neo-gothic material to that too

I wish NWR would direct other peoples screenplays more. I don’t think writing is his strong point.

That’s why TOTDY is his best, like 3 piecrs of dialogue per ep

I’m not even gonna lie, a big part of why I like Drive so much is cause I interpret the Driver as sort of autistic. I like that he doesn’t need to have game, or be witty. Of course, he looks like Ryan Gosling, but he’s also a repressed human bean who wants love.

It’s possible I feel that on rewatch. That could really happen. Cause it has a lot of goofy comedy. There’s some nostalgia on it for me tho. And man, like usual, the music is so damn good.

Well he's clearly a bit.. off. There's also that theory that everything after the slap was just a fantasy in his head and he bled out in the parking lot, like Taxi Driver. I think it all actually happened though.

thats correct rly, the character and script is based off le samouraï and alain delon’s character jef, who also is on the spectrum of personality disorders, like schizoid

obv knowledge of such things were limited in the 60s, but melville researched mental disorders when coming up with the character

driver/gosling yelling at shannon to skip town is off character though and not in line with aspie/autism

These Critics/Directors nerd should be ashame of themself
They go over directors diversity instead of picking the best 10 films

Marty would have at least 5 in the top 10 if we keep the bullshit away none in the f***ing top 20 is a joke

    Greatest director of all time

Pearlman is the only thing off about that movie tbh I don't buy his hammy gangster at all. The dudes they cast as street level thugs are legit however 😳
