dang ran makes me wanna play total war shogun 2 again
come on like parasite being included does not make sense
Parasite got the woke/reactionary buzz right now so it's not surprising. Real ones know its by far Bong's worst movie

i just watched it last month during a 24h film marathon and I literally just enjoyed the dialogue until 40 minutes in (so pretty much while they were plotting about how to infiltrate their household).
the s***scene between the rich couple was funny too but that was about it
i'd rather watch chabrol's la cérémonie 10 times before I rewatch parasite. handmaiden also ran during that marathon and I liked that way more lol, so there's definitely better korean films out there. I think the way it swooped both oscars and cannes there was some mental obligation to pick that parasite over another bong film or another korean

Lmao you be saying anything on this site
Lmao now y’all in here hating on Parasite. @proper where tf have I found myself???
the absolute best macbeth adaptation, I haven't seen the coens' yet though
the swordplay is excellent even with that limited research they had in the 70s
You seen Welles’ version?

I been hating on it since I first saw it. It's not a BAD movie but for the quality that Bong is known for (and especially the crazy praise this saw), it was so disappointing.

Having just seen Mother recently, I can confidently say all his other movies are far superior. I feel like, as a film, Parasite is so contained and I always considered worldbuilding to be one of Bong's best traits to his films so without it, you're really just left with watching a film rely entirely on its dialogue and plot.
Bong has always been a heavyhanded filmmaker but I feel it worked because of how ambitious his concepts were and what he was showing visually that extended to his themes. With Parasite, it is just heavy handed eat the rich dialogue and plotting throughout the film and that s*** is so boring. But obviously because its anti capitalism and WOKE, critics ate it up.
The Korean film industry is full of great movies. I'm not surprised the West gravitated towards Parasite because its one of the least eccentric and most safe movies they have ever made.

Have you seen The Servant (1963)?
I’m the few of people who don’t like Parasite. It’s a lackluster trite of a film and I wouldn’t put it in the best regards as to attracting hammer and sickle fetishists on twitter
It’s a good movie but nowhere near one of the best movies ever.
thinking your opinion matters
So, what particular one would that be, arbitrator of taste? I AM legitimately curious, especially since this one placed the highest on their previous poll. Also: people only talk how you do when people praise stuff by non-whitemen, I see it all the time on literature and film boards. This is the unfortunate burden all non-whitemale critics and creatives have to face. There's always an agenda when their stuff gets placed next to the great white men. It's never a simple matter of different tastes that are finally getting due recognition. I'm glad I'm not deluded enough to treat the movies like some objective science where a POLL produced the wrong results somehow. Unless evidence comes of vote tampering this discourse is ridiculous, clearly reflecting the mindset of people who think the world revolves around their taste.
I agree with both of you for different reasons. When certain things are elevated above others, folks look for reasons to tear it down. If it "appears" to have an agenda for certain people, folks say that's the reason it was put ahead. For example, I think if they put Come and See as #1, no one would've said s***.
I gave up watching the Coen’s one without subtitles after 30 minutes. Polanski’s one is great
Macbeth was torture in the theaters
