that probably wouldn't have been quite bit more awkward than these two hams
I just need to see Tarkovksy drunkenly yelling the Seven Samurai theme, that's definitely one of the rooms I'd go to if I had a time machine
chaplin
Another guy who was a great filmmaker but a very sketchy person, I'll be honest though, once an artist's dead I don't think about stuff like that so much, I wouldn't want to financially support a terrible person but once they're dead it's not like anything bad happens from enjoying their films

I don’t like the idea of people saying they can’t support someone because they’re terrible because everyone’s so morally selective. Like a musician could’ve murdered somebody when they were younger but if they say something insensitive about a group of people, that’s considered worse to society.
Anyways… join Kino sxn. Edgelords are waiting to be discussed!

If it helps I'm pretty consistent with it, if I find out an artist has killed someone, done s***crimes or consistently spouted hateful rhetoric, I stop supporting them in ways they can financially benefit from, just my personal preference, I know my tax money is likely funding absolutely horrible things but there's nothing I can really do about that, I just feel wrong knowing I'm handing money to people that I wouldn't if they were in the same room as me

Yeah this thread is like a mini Kino sxn vassal state atm, I feel so guilty for not keeping up with the film challenge man
not a single nolan movie or tarantino is disgusting
You won’t see them on these lists for another 20-30 years honestly
Most of these filmmakers aren’t going to pick s*** from filmmakers as old as them or younger
I also know a lot of the older filmmakers don’t really respect Tarantino. I remember many of them didn’t like Pulp Fiction because they felt like it was somebody just making a collage out of their work.

It’s insane that Pulp Fiction isn’t there.
Like legitimately crazy.

I can’t imagine that you ever pay to see a single film in theater then because that money is going towards a whole corporation full of shady execs and producers

youre rowjay whomst disregards anything fun and popular

The thing is, I don't know if they've done anything, but I control it where I can after I find out stuff, there's probably an element of hypocrisy in there but I'd rather be hypocritical than consciously give my money to more abusers etc
And for the record I don't actually see movies at the cinema because my ears are messed up but that's neither here nor there
seven samurai is goated but i dont understand why rashomon is the other kurosawa rep on this list. is it just the narrative structure and how groundbreaking it was? He's got a bunch of better movies. I can see Yojimbo and Sanjuro are actiony movies and don't fit but i'd expect high & low, ikiru, throne of blood, dreams over rashomon..

not today man its the lords day
shoutout filho for being the only director so far that picked a von trier, dogville
all it takes is saying that you understand hitler and your legacy is screwed
I just watched Dancer in the Dark a week ago and while it solidified my view of him as a GREAT director, it feels impossible to praise too much given Björk’s comments on her behind the scenes abuse. Especially when her performance is so central to my love for the movie…
With that being said, I wonder how many director’s have gotten as many singular performances from individual actresses for different movies compared to him?
• Björk in Dancer in the Dark
• Charlotte Gainsbourg in Antichrist
• Nicole Kidman in Dogville
• Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves
• Kirsten Dunst in Melancholia
I still need to see Nymphomaniacs & The Idiots but that is a stellar top 5 for film performances that can probably compete w any other list of director-actress listings (except for perhaps Bergman, but I feel like Björk and Gainsboroug enter another realm of performance)
